CULTIVATOR-SHOVEL.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM J. Hnasonnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buckingham, in the county of Kankakee and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cultivator- Shovels, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to improvements in cultivator shovels having detachable points,
and consists of the novel features of construction hereinafter fully described and claimed.
The object of the invention is to provide a more simple, practical and efiective fastening for securing a detachable shovel point so that the latter will be efiectively supported and clamped.
The above and other objects of the invention are accomplished in the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a rear elevation of a cultivator shovel constructed in accordance with the invention; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, parts being broken away and in section; Fig. 3 is a detail horizontal section taken on the plane indicated by the line 3-8 in Fig. 2; and Fig. 4: is a front elevation of the combined connecting plate for the sections of the shovel and the attaching clamp for the shovel.
The improved'cultivator shovel consists of a body section 1, a point section 2 and a combined shovel attaching clamp and connecting member or plate 3. The body section 1 is here shown as of rectangular form and provided with a slight longitudinal curvature while the point section 2 is of triangular-shape, its downwardly converging side edges having their under faces beveled, as shown at 4, to provide sharp edges 5. The abutting lower edge of the body section 1 and horizontal upper edge of the point section 2 are square so as to fit each other and they are held in contact by the combined clamp and connecting member or plate 8 which has at its lower end an enlarged substantially semicircular portion or head 6 having a front face to bear against the flat rear faces of the sections 1, 2, of the shovel. This head 6 is formed upon its bottom and opposite sides with an integral flange 6 so that the entire lower end or head 6 covers the majority portion of the abutting ends of the sections 1, 2, as clearly shown in Fig. 1. This construction causes the lower point section 2 to be effectively supported and greatly strengthens the device. The central portion of the head 6 and the lower portion of the flange 6 are formed with apertures 7 8, to receive bolts 9, 10, the upper bolt 9 passing through the upper section, and the lower bolt 10 passing through the section 2, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. The member 3 is further secured to the body section 1 by a bolt 12 which passes through the upper por tion of said body section and through an aperture 13 in the flattened upper end 1a of said member 3. The intermediate portion of the member 3 carries a clamp whereby the device is attached to a depending standard, indicated at S in Fig. 2, on a cultivator, plow or the like. This clamp consists of a stationary member formed by making the intermediate portion of the member 3 with a concaved seat 15 on one side of which is formed a hook 16 and on the other side a bifurcated lug or projection 17. The movable member 18 of the clamp is curved transversely to provide a seat 19 opposed to the seat 15, and at one end it is apertured, as shown at 20, to receive the hook 16 while at its other end it is apertured, as shown at 21, to receive a clampin bolt 22, the head 23 of which is set in the bi urcated or forked projection 17, as clearly shown in Figs. 3 and a of the drawings.
