The present invention relates to improvements in hair curlers and wavers; and, the said invention has reference, more particularly, to an improvement in soft resilienthair curlers and wavers of the kind which is formed with a body-portion provided at one end with a head or bulb, and at the other end with an eyelet-portion. In this class of hair-curlers and wavers, as heretofore constructed, considerable difficulty has been experienced when introducing the heads or bulbs of the said hair curlers and wavers into the said eyelet-portion of the same, be

cause the said head or bulb being ap proximately stiff and but slightly yielding would resist its passage through said eyeletportion; and, furthermore, said heads or bulbs being small were ditlicult to manipulate in the operation of passing the same through said eyelet-portion.

The present invention has for its principal object, therefore, to provide a novel construction of hair curler and waver of the class herein set forth in which the abovementioned objections are overcome.

My invention consists in the novel hair curler and waver hereinafter fully set forth; and the invention consists, furthermore, in the several novel arrangements and combinations of the various parts, as well as in the details of the construction thereof, all of which will be hereinafter fully described in the following specification and then finally embodied in the clauses of the claim which are appended to and which form an essential part of this specification.

The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a face view of the novel constructionof hair-curler and waver embodyingvthe princi les of nay-present invention. Fig. 2 is an ge view of the same. Fig, 3 is a central vertical longitudinal section. of the same. Fig. 4 is a face view of a slightly modified construction .of hair-curler and waver embodying the principles of my present invention.

Similar characters of reference are employed in all of the herein-above described views, to indicate corresponding parts.

Referring now to Figs. 1, 2 and 3 of the accompanying drawings, there is illustrated therein a complete hair-curler and waver 1 which embodies the rinciples of my present invention. This sai hair-curler and waver 1 comprises a body-portion 2 preferably made of a soft resilient material, such, for example, as india rubber, or the like. The said body-portion 2 is thus formed into a flexible band of any desirable cross-sectional configuration,- the said body-portion being preferably provided, however, with a tapering portion 3 at one of its ends. Integrally formed upon the end of said tapering portion is a head or-bulb 41-, preferably of spherical conformation. The said. head or bulb & is further provided with a transverse opening or perforation 5, which renders the same more'easily compressible for the purposes to be subsequently described. Extending outwardly from said head or bulb 4 is a reduced extension or portion 6 and formed upon the free end of said extension or portion is a small head or bulb 7, which may also be provided with a transverse opening or perforation 8. The said bodyportion 2 is further provided at its opposite end with a ring-shaped portion 9, the opening or perforation 10 of which is smaller in diameter than the diameter of said head or bulb 4. Arranged in said body-portion 2, at a convenient point between its ends, is an elongated slot or opening 11 adapted to be spread apart to receive the end of a tress or lock of hair which is to be wound about said body-portion to impart a curl or wave thereto.

After the tress or look of hair has been wound u on said body-portion 2, the head ration 5, so that the same ma the said ring-shaped portion 9, the said head or bulb 4 which is rendered more easily compressible by its transverse opening or perfobe more easily and uickly passed into its holdin or buttoned relation with said ring-shape ortion 9. The transverse opening or peroration 8 in said small head or bulb 7 renders the same somewhat flexible or compressible, thereb aidinignin assuring a firm grip thereupon by the gers when buttoning the said hair-curler or waver. A further advantage found in the perforated heads or bulbs, as above described, lies in the .fact that they are thus made more resilient or yieldable and therefore less objectionable when they come in contact with the head of the wearer, when reclining.

Referring now, more particularly to Fig.

4 of the sald drawings, a slightlymodified form of hair-curler or waver is provided of the same general construction as above described, exce t that in place of the head or bulb 7 provided with the transverse o ening or perforation, a solid head orbul .12 may be formed upon the end of said extension or portion 6.

I am aware that changes may be made in the several arrangements and combinations of the various parts, as well as in the details of the construction thereof, without departing from the scope of my present invention, as set forth in the foregoing specification, and as defined in the claims which are appended thereto. Hence, I do not limit my lnvention to the exact arrangements and combinations of the various parts as herein shown and described, nor do I confine myself to the exact details of the construction thereof, except as defined by the scope of the appended claims.

I claim As a new article of manufacture, a hair-curler and waver comprising a flexible bod -portion, a ring-shaped member atone end 0 said body-portion, a head or'bulb at the other end of said body-portion, said head or bulb being provided with a transverse opening or hole, and a ull-piece or ext-ens1on extending outwar y from said head or bulb.

2. As a new article of manufacture, a

hair-curler and waver comprising a body-- portion of soft rubber provlded with a slot or opening adapted to receive a tress or lock of hair, a ring-shaped member integrally connected with one end of said body-portion, ahead or bulb integrally connected with the other end of said body-portion, said head or bulbbeing provided with a transverse opening or hole adapted to render said head or bulb more easily compressible, and a pull-piece or extension integrally connected with said head or bulb, said pullpiece or extension being provided with a small head or bulb of smaller diameter than the opening of said ringshaped member.
