Claims.
This invention relates to hair wave devices and more particularly to a hair Wave device adapted to be used with home permanent kits which are very popular at the present time.
It is accordingly an object of the present invention to provide devices for hair Waving which may be readily and easily applied to the hair for example after application of the home permanent wave solution and which will maintain the hair in a curled condition while applying the neutralizer solution and while setting.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide an improved hair wave device which includes novel means for curling the hair about a spool-like member which tapers inwardly to provide greater curling surface and which is more effective in producing beautiful, natural curls than devices now in use.
It is a still further object of the present invention to provide a novel and highly efficient hair wave device which includes novel means for maintaining a spool-like member in operative position upon the users hair and whichpermits ready and easy removal of the same for unwinding and removal of the hair therefrom.
It is a still further object of the present invention to provide an improved hair wave device which includes novel means for aerating and drying the hair while curled upon the spool-like member.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide an improved hair wave device which is of simple construction, is inexpensive to manufacture, has a minimum number of parts, is compact, of pleasing appearance, durable, will have long life and is highly encient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a hair wave device embodying the features of the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view taken along line 2 2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view taken along line 3-3 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a modified form of the present invention;
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary exploded view of a portion of the device shown in Fig. 4;
Fig. 6 is a cross sectional View taken along line 6-6 of Fig. 4 and Fig. 7 is a fragmentary perspective view of a modified form of the present invention.
Referring now in detail to the gures, there is shown a spool-like member, referred to collectively as 1, consisting of a central portion 8 and at circular end portions S and I6 integrally connected thereto. The spool-like member 'l is provided with a main hole II and auxiliary holes I2 located around the periphery of the end portions 9 and I0 and along the central portion 8, Vthe holes along the central portion communicating with the main hole II as clearly shown in Fig. 2. The outer sides of the central portion 8 taper inwardly from the end portions 9 and lll to the central portion thereof as clearly shown in Fig. 2.
Referring now particularly to Figs. 1 and 2, there is shown a clamping member, referred to collectively as I3, and consisting of a flat double pronged part I4, an S-shaped single-pronged part I5 and an elastic band I which maintains the parts I4 and I5 in operative engagement.
The flat part I4 has an enlarged head portion I1 provided at the center thereof with a hole I8, a neck portion I9 adapted to be engaged by the elastic band I6 and two elongated prongs 25 adapted to receive the spool-like member 7 as shown in Fig. 1.
The S-shaped part I5 has a similarly enlarged head portion 2I provided at the center thereof with a hole 22, a neck portion 23 adapted tovbe engaged by the elastic band It and two elongated prongs 24 integrally joined at their ends to form a single prong 25 adapted to engage the hole II as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
In operation, the head portions il and 2i are compressed as shown in Fig. 2 by the fingers, thus raising the prong 25 from the hole ii and permitting the ready removal of the spool-like member l. The strands of hair are then wound around the spool-like member 'I at the central portion 8 thereof by rotating the flat end portions between the iingers as shown in Fig. 3, after applying the permanent'waving solution to the hair strands. The hole H is then placed once more in engagement with the prong 25, which upon release of the head portions Ii and 2i assuines the position shown in Fig. l with the spool-like member 7 firmly engaged between the prong 25 and the lower prongs 20 and having the hair strands rrnly curled around the tapered central portion 8. The neutralizing solution may then be applied in a well known manner to the curl, with the main hole I I and the auxiliary holes I2 providing sufficient aeration to quickly dry and set the hair. After a sufcient interval of time has elapsed, the spool-like mem- 3 ber 7 may be easily and readily removed in the above described manner to reveal beautiful, natural curls.
Referring now to Figs. 4, and 6, there is shown a modiiied form of the present invention wherein the prong 25 is modified to an integral plug 2B of polygonal cross section adapted to lool@ ingly engage a modified main hole 26; also of polygonal cross section, and to prevent angular displacement of the spool-like member rEhe integral plug 26 is provided with an air vent 21 communicating with the main hole 25 whereby excess neutralizing solution may be carried into the main hole 2t and evaporated and which permits increased aeration along with the auxiliary holes l2.
The operation of this modification is the saine as that of the device shown in Eig. l with the exception that the spool-like member' i is main tained against angular displacement and increased aeration is provided by the air vent 2.
The integral prong 2?: and the plug to may be modified or even eliminated without departing from the scope of the present invention, inasmuch as it is apparent that any extension of the prongs Eil which will engage the main noie il or 2S will perform the function desired.
Referring now to Fig. 7, there is shown a still further modified forni of the present invention wherein the prongs 2G do not come together into an integral large prong 25 but remain separate and extend horizontally across the circular end portion 9 in frictional engagement therewith.
It should now be apparent that there has been provided an improved hair wave device which may be readily and easily applied to the hair and which includes novel means for maintaining the hair in a curled position and for afer-ating the same, and which may be easily and readily removed at the conclusion of the waving. It should also be apparent that there has been vided an improved hair wave device which includes a spoollilre member of novel design which may be manufactured of plastic or other suitable material at a low cost to the consumer and which will maintain the hair in a curled condition until setting.
While various changes may be made in the detailed construction, it shall be understood that these shall be within the spirit and scope or the invention as donned by the appended claims.
Having thus set forth and described the nature of my invention, what is claimed is:
l. A hair wave device comprising in nation a resilient clamping member and a spoolm like member adapted to be releasably engaged said clamping member, said spool-like inemu ber consisting of central core and t discs integrally connected to the ends of said core, the outer sides of said central core tapering inwardly from said discs toward the mid-portion thereof, said clamping member consisting of a flat elongated part an S-shaped part, said spooll` A:e member resting on said rlat elongated part and being provided along the longitudinal axis thereof with a cylindrical hole receiving said s-shaped part, means being provided rei siliently securing said S-shaped part along one side thereof to said 'dat elongated part.
2. A hair wave device comprising in combination a resilient clamping member and a spool-like member, said spool-like member consisting of a central core and flat, substantially circular enlarged end portions integrally connected to the ends of said core7 the outer sides of said core tapering inwardly from said end portions toward the mid-point thereof, said spool-like member being provided with a cylindrical hole along the longitudinal axis thereof extending substantially from end to end, said circular end portions being provided with holes around the peripheries thereof and substantially parallel to sai-:i cylindrical hole, said central core being provided with holes communicating with said cylindrical hole, said clamping member consisting of a fiat, elongated part and an S-shaped part, said S-shaped part along one side thereof resting on said fiat elongated part, means resiliently securing said side of said S-shaped part to said flat elongated part, one end of said S-shaped part extending upwardly at an angle to said flat part, the other end of said S-shaped part extending upwardly from said flat part and extending further substantially parallel to said ilat part and terminating in a downwardly bent portion at substantially right angles to said flat part, said spool-like member` resting along said flat part on one circular' end portion thereof with said downwardly bent portion engaging said cylindrical hole located along the longitudinal axis of said spool-like member.
3. A hair wave device compiising in combination a resilient clamping member and a spoollike member, said spool-like member consisting or" a central portion substantially circular in cross section and flat, substantially circular enlarged end portions integrally connected to the ends of said central portion, the outer surface of said central portion tapering inwardly from said end portions toward the mid-point thereof, said spool-like member being provided with a hole extending along the longitudinal axis thereof, said hole being substantially polygonal in cross section, said circular end portions being pierced by a plurality of holes located along the peripheries thereof substantially parallel to said polygonal hole, said central portion being provided with holes communicating with said polygonal hole, said clamping member consisting of a flat, elongated part and an S-shaped part, said S-shaped part along one side thereof resting on said flat part, means resiliently securing said side to said hat part, one end of said S-shaped part extending upwardly from said flat part at an angl-e thereto, the other end of said S-shaped part being bent upwardly from said hat part, saidend being further bent at a substanu tially parallel direction to said fiat part and finally terminating in a downwardly bent portion at substantially right angles to said fiat part, said downwardly bent portion being substantially polygonal in cross section and adapted to engage said polygonal hole of said spool-like member, said downwardly bent portion being provided at the top thereof with an air vent communicating with said polygonal hole.

A hair wave device comprising in combination a clamping member and a spool-like member, said clamping member consisting of a flat elongated part having an enlarged head, a neck portion and two elongated prongs integrally connected to and extending from said neckportion, an S-shaped part having a corresponding enlarged head portion, a corresponding neck por-A tion adapted to coincide with said first mentioned neck portion and two elongated prongs integrally joined at their ends to form a large prong, elastic means for maintaining the neck of said fiat portion in operative engagement with the neel: portion of said S-shaped part, said spoollike member having a cylindrical hole extending along the longitudinal axis thereof and consisting of a central portion substantially circular in cross section and flat circular end portions integrally connected thereto, said circular end portions being pierced by Ventilating holes located around the peripheries thereof, said central portion being provided with Ventilating holes communicating with said cylindrical hole, the outer surface of said central portion tapering inwardly from said circular end portions, the
lower circular end portion of said spool-like mern ber resting on the two elongated prongs ofvsaid at part with the upper end of said cylindrical hole being engaged by said large prong of said S -shaped part.
5. A hair Wave device comprising in combination a resilient clamping member and a spool-` like member consisting of a central core and flat, substantially circular enlarged end portions integrally connected to the ends of said core, the outer sides of said core tapering inwardly from said end portions toward the mid-point thereof, said spool-like member .being provided with a cylindrical hole along the longitudinal axis thereof extending substantially from end to end, said circular end portions being provided with holes around the peripheries thereof and substantially parallel to said cylindrical hole, said central core being provided with holes communicating with said central cylindrical hole, said clamping member consisting of a flat, elongated part, and an S-shaped part, said S-shaped part along one side thereof resting on said at, elongated part, means resiliently securing said side of said S-shaped part to said flat, elongated part, one end of said S-shaped part extending upwardly from said at part at an angle thereto, the other end of "said S-shaped part extending upwardly from said flat part and extending further substantially parallel to said flat part, said upwardly extending and horizontally extending portions of said S-shaped part consisting of two elongated prongs, said spool-like member resting along said at part on one circular end portion thereof With said horizontally extending prongs frictionally engaging the other circular end portion.
