This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in hair curlers and one of the objects of the invention is to provide a curler of this type which may be readily and expeditiously used instead of pin curlers, particularly so after the hair has been shampooed whereby to accomplish the result of a uniform curl that can be combed either into a strong wave or curls after the hair has been thoroughly dried.

A further and equally important object of the invention is the provision of a hair curler of this type which may be mounted in applied position with the minimum degree of effort on the part of the user and which can be manufactured at a relatively economical cost.

Yet another object of the invention is the provision of a curler for the purposes hereinafter set forth Whichmay be easily and quickly removed from the hair without destroying or rupturing the curl.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

The invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings showing the preferred form of construction, and in which:

Fig. 1 is a perspective View of a plurality of hair curlers embodying the invention, showing the same in applied position;

Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the invention; and

Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the same showing I the clamping element thereof in. open position.

The several objects of my invention are accomplished by the preferred form of construction shown in the accompanying drawings and in which l indicates, generally, my improved hair curler. This curler Ill includes a disc-like mounting Plate ll havin formed in its peripheral edge portion a notch I 2. On this mounting plate is formed a knuckle l3 and pivotally positioned in this knuckle I3 is the bight portion of a clamp structure I5 including a pair of opposite parallelly extending latch bars l6. Opposite the knuckle I3 is an upstanding latch plate" having oppositely disposed keeper slots l8 formed therein.

The curler l0 may be formed of any suitable material. I prefer to form the curler from aluminum so as to produce a curler which will be relatively light in weight thereby to afford maximum comfort to the user.

In use, the curler is mounted upon the head as shown in Fig. 1 preferably after the hair has been shampooed. Thus positioning the curler upon the scalp, the mountin plate will be flat against the scalp. The clamping structure is pivoted from latched position upon the plate II. A small sec- 1 Claim. (Cl. 132 -40) tion of hair, or so much of the hair as is desired to form the curl, is passed through the notch l2 and wrapped tightly around the core IS.

The clamping structure I5 is then pivoted to clamping position with the arms [6 in latched engagement with the keeper slots l8, thus firmly but gently clamping the curled section of hair upon the core [9. If desirable, the arms l6 may have a limited degree of flexibility so that when latched with respect to the latch plate II, the arms I 6 will not crush or otherwise'leave an impression upon the curl.

It is manifest from the foregoing description that my improved curler is simple in structure. comprises relatively few parts with the result thatit may be manufactured at an economical cost. It will also be apparent that the curler may be applied against the scalp and removed therefrom with substantial ease and with the minimum degree of effort on the part of the user.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable ofyariation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:

A hair curler comprising a base plate having a centrally located core extending upwardly therefrom, said base plate at one edge thereof provid ing a knuckle, a clamp formed from an elongated piece of resilient wire bent substantially U-shaped to provide a bight portion journalled in the knuckle and parallelly extendin arms adapted to extend transversely of the base plate on opposite sides of the core, akeeper plate formed integral with the base plate on the edge thereof opposite the knuckle, said keeper plate having formed therein oppositely located keeper slots for the reception of the end portions of the arms to yieldably latch the arms over hair disposed between the arms and the base plate.
