To all whom it may' concern:

Be it known that I, EDMUND HUDDART, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Barneston, in Gage county and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Cuspidor-Cleaning Machine, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in what may be termed cuspidor cleaners.

It has for its object to conduct the cleaning operation with facility and effectively; also to provide for the adjustment of the cleaning brushes or mops to suit requirements or conditions; also to carry out these ends in a simple and inexpensive manner.

rIhe invention consists of certain instrumentalities or features substantially as hereinafter fully disclosed and defined by the claim.

In the accompanying drawing illustrating the preferred embodiment of my invention, Figure l is a view in elevation thereof as applied for cleaning or mopping a cuspidor, the two opposed upper brushes or cleaners being shown also in dotted lines, in elevated position. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the same produced through the handle, viewing downwardly. Fig. 3 is a detached perspective view of the attaching sleeve or socket for the upper brushes or cleaners.

In practicing my invention, I employ, in connection with a suitable handle or staff adapted for convenient manual actuation, a number of brushes C and D. The brush C has its attaching sleeve or socket B adapted to receive the lower end of the staff or handle A, thus being attached or applied to the latter in the direction of its axis, said sleeve or socket having radial extensions a at its lower lateral edge secured to the brushhead. The upper brushes D have a common means of attachment to the handle or staff A consisting of a sleeve or socket E adapted for application to the latter and provided with a thumb-screw F for engagement with said handle, and by means of which arrangement the brushes may be adjusted to any required point or elevation along the handle and be thus held as circumstances may call for, as suggested by the -dotted line Specification of Letters Patent.

The sleeve or socket E has extending laterally from opposite points of its lower edge angular or upwardly and outwardly inclined extensions or flanges G having holes therethrough receiving suitable fastenings for the attachment of the brushes D thereto, whereby the latter are caused to assume a like angular position, as in adapting the same for application to the upper flared mouth portion of a cuspidor as clearly indicated in the drawing. The inner lower ends of the brush-heads may be cut away or recessed to partially receive the handle A laterally as suggested in Fig. l, the purpose of which is obvious.

In operation, the handle or staff A being so disposed as to permit the insertion of the brush C into the cuspidor, the brushes D will conform to the inclination of, and rest upon the upper flared portion of the latter, when, by suitably actuating said handle, aided bythe requisitely added water, the cleaning operation may be readily and effectively performed, thus reaching the entire inner surface of the cuspidor including the deep bowl portion and the flared portion thereof, as is apparent.

I claim A device of the character described, comprising a handle, a sleeve capable of vertical movement en said handle, said sleeve having two upwardly and outwardly inclined anges integral with the lower portion of said sleeve, said flanges extending in opposite directions and having apertures therein,

an adjusting screw for the retention of said EDMUND I-IUDDART.
