To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOSEPH SOHOEPE, a citizen of Germany, residing at New York city, Manhattan, county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Fixtures, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a curtain fixture adapted to be permanently connected to a window frame and so constructed that the curtain pole is vertically movable and may be secured in position at any elevation desired. In this way the pole may be lowered within reach from the floor whenever the curtain is to be hung or unhung, so that the objectionable use of step ladders is obviated. A

My invention also permits the curtain to be lowered to a suitable extent Whenever the upper sash is lowered, thus removing the curtain from the efiects of draft or dust.

on each side of the window there is supported, preferably upon sill 10, a tubular post 11 having afoot 12 which is permanently attached to the sill by screws or otherwise. Each post 11 telescopes a vertically movable tubular rod 13 which is guided during its movements by a bar 14 that extends into post 11, so as to rest with its lower end upon foot 12, while its upper end is received Within a perforated plate 15 secured to lintel 16. A clamp screw 17, tapped into post 11 and engaging rod 13, permits the latter to be locked at different elevations. Upon rod 13 is vertically movable a slide 19 hav ing an eye that encompasses the rod. Slide 19 may be locked to rod 13 at different ele vations by means of a clamp screw 20 which is tapped into the eye and engages the rod. Slide 19 is provided with anarm or pin 18 to which is coupled a bracket 21 which is deflected laterally to extend beyond jamb 22. The connection between arm 18 and bracket 21 is such, that the latter is rotatable in a vertical plane upon the former. To this effect, arm 18 extends into a socket 23 of bracket 21 and is provided with a circumferential groove 24 which is engaged by a screw or stop 25 tapped into the socket. Near its upper end, bracket 21 is reduced in diameter to form an integral pin 26 and a shoulder 27 below said pin. The curtain pole 28 is composed of two telescoping sec tions and is perforated near each end to receive pins 26 and rest upon shoulders 27.

To hang the curtain, rods 13 are lowered to rest on plates 12, and slides 19 are lowered upon rods 13, to become seated upon upper ends of posts 11. Pole 28 thus lowered within easy reach from the floor is ready to receive the curtain which is attached thereto in suitable manner. Slides 19 are now raised and clamped to the upper ends of rods 13, and then rods 13 are raised to the proper extent and clamped to posts 11, so as to carry the pole to the proper position.

By making the coupling between brackets 21 and arms 18 rotatable, the operator may successively manipulate the device on both sides of the window, so that a single person may easily hang the curtain without assistance. That is to say, if one of the rods 13 is lowered, prior to the lowering of the other rod, brackets 21 will swing on arms 18 to permit pole 28 to assume an inclined position without jamming.

I claim:

1. A curtain fixture comprising a pair of tubular posts, rods telescoped thereby, means for clamping the rods to the posts, horizontal slides movable on the rods, means for clamping the slides to the rods, brackets vertically rotatable on the slides, and a curtain pole engaging the brackets.

2.
