CURTAIN-FIXTUB(E.v
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.' 760,835, dated May 24, 1904.
Application filed March 16, 1904.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that we, NIoKoLAUs ZIEGLER and CHRISTOPHER O. BRANDAN, citizens of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new anduseful Improvements in Curtain-Fixtures, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new 'and ,/useful improvements in curtain-pole fixtures,
and has for its object the provision of novel means whereby the device may be easily lowered to a position that will permit the pole to be easily draped from the floor.
Another object of our present invention is to provide novel'means that will place the curtain-pole in proper position after the same has been draped.
rPhe present invention still further aims to provide a fixture that may be adjusted, thereby placing the curtain-pole any desired, distance from the Window.
- With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed. f
In describing the invention in detail refer ence is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this application, and wherein like numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of our improved curtain-pole fixture secured in position. Fig. 2 is a sideelevation thereof, showing the curtain-pole in the lowered position. Fig. 3 is ay perspective view of the springdrum.
In the drawings the reference-numeral 1 represents the window-frame, to Which are secured plates 2 by. means of screws 3.v The said plates carry at their upper ends hinged connections 4, carrying movable arms 5, which have fnormed at theirupper free ends loops 6, in which is secured the ordinary curtain-pole 7 Approximately in the center of the curtain-pole is aixed an eye 8, in which is seserial No. 198,447. (No model.)
cured a cord 9, passing over a spring-pressed drum 10, which is rotatably mounted in brackets 11, the latter being rigidly secured to the frame 1. An operating-cord 12 is likewise secured to the curtain-pole 7 ,which serves as means to lower the curtain-pole when desired.
Brackets 14 are rigidly secured to the frame 1, and these brackets extend outwardly and are slightly inclined downwardly at an angle, so as to be Aapproximately tangent to the varc described by the movement of the curtainpole. In these brackets are adjustably secured rods 15, extending through suitable openings formed in the lugs 16 and 17, carried by the brackets 14. The outer ends ot' the rods 15 carry an enlarged fork 18, adapted to engage the curtain-pole and retain it in a proper adjusted position. In the lugs 16 is secured a set-screw 19, which serves to'engage the rod 15 and retain it in proper position.
The operation of our improved curtainpole fixture is as follows: When it is desired to drape the curtain, theoperating-cord 12 is drawn downwardly, thereby lowering the curtain-pole to a position that will permit the same to be draped. As the curtain-pole is loweredthe cord 9 will be unwound from the spring-pressed drum until the curtain-pole has been lowered to the desired position, and after the pole has been draped a slight pull upon the operating-cord 12 will cause the spring-drum to wind up the cord 9'and return the curtain-pole in position. sired to extend the curtain-pole a greater dis- When it is de- A tance from the window,'the set-screw 19 is loosened and the rods 15 adjusted.
The many advantages obtained by the use of our improved curtain-pole .iixture will be readily apparent from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings. y It will be obvious that various slight changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of our invention. f
. Having fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a curtain-pole fixture, the combination of brackets, adjustable rods secured in said brackets, hinged arms carrying a curtainpole engaging said rods, and means whereby said curtain-pole may belowered and returned to its normal position, substantially as described.
2. In a curtain-pole fixture, the combination of a pair of brackets having adjustable rods secured therein, hinged arms, a curtainpole secured in said arms engaging said rods, a spring-actuated roller, a cord connecting said spring-actuated roller and curtain-pole,
and an operating-cord connected to said curtain-pole, all parts being arranged and operating substantially as described.
In testimony whereof we aiiix our signatures 15 in the presence of two witnesses.
