CHAFING-SHIELD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 2c, 1910.
Application filed .Tune 5, 1909. Serial No. 500,281.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BLANCHE HALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Chafng-Shields, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to chafing shields.
The object of the invention is to provide an article of this character, adapted more particularly to be worn by stout women, that shall be thoroughly effective in preventing chang of the opposed surfaces to the thighs from the crotch of the legs downward any desired or necessary distance, and which shall be simple of construction, efficient and durable in use, and easy of application to position.
With the above and other objects in view, as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction and combination of partsof a chang shield, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts :-F igure 1 is a view of. a woman, showing the manner in which the shield is positioned. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the shield. Fig. 3 is a sectional view through the thigh-engaging portion of the shield.
The shield embodies a belt 1 which may be constructed of any suitable material, and the ends of which are secured together by a buckle 2, indicated by dotted lines in Fig. l.
Secured to the sides of the belt are legbands 3, which, as shown in Figr, are of many-ply structure, and in this instance are A constructed of an inner ply 4 of thin sheet rubber, and two outer plies 5 of any suitable textile fabric. In order to accentuate the non-chafng properties of the shield, the plies of the bands, at those points .that will contact with the interior, anterior and posterior portions of the thighs, are provided with registering openings 6 constituting pockets to contain toilet powder, which will be distributed by the jars resulting from the Attached to each of the bands adjacent to its terminal is an elastic strap 9, and these straps serve to hold the bands properly positioned around the thighs of the wearer and to prevent them from working down. In order to secure the straps around the thighs, close up to the crotch of the wearer, each band is preferred character, and these buckles will hold the strap in proper adjustment.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that provision is made, in a novel and practical manner, to dispense toilet powder to the interior portions of the thighs and also to adjust the article in a manner that will be calculated to afford the greatest comfort in use.
I claim A shield of the class described embodying a belt, a buckle connecting the ends of the said belt, leg bands secured to the sides of the belt, said leg bands each being formed from a many-ply structure comprising an inner ply of thin sheet rubber and two outer plies of textile fabric, said plies of material having alining passages formed therein and adapted to form pockets for the reception of toilet powder, said leg bands being free from each other, and an elastic leg-engaging and encircling strap carried by each of the said leg bands.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
BLANCHE I-IALL.
