'liquid is poured therein and the object of the invention is to cut oif the lower end of the vent tube obliquely so as to allow air to pass into the same from the side whereby all danger of the liquid being carried up in the vent tube by the air is prevented.
Another object of my invention is to provide a funnel which consists of a conical body portion having the bent end of a vent tube secured therein and provided with a split nozzle which is secured thereto and to the vent tube, the vent tube being soldered between the adjacent edges of the nozzle.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a funnel which is exceedingly simple and cheap in construction and one which is provided with a vent tube which is so mounted that the air from the vessel will be allowed to escape without any danger of the liquid being poured through the funnel being carried out through the tube.
lVith these objects in view, my invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter described, pointed out in the claim andshown in the accompanying drawings, in which V Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved funnel. Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the same. Fig. 3 is a top plan view, and Fig. 4 is a section taken on the line t4: of Fig. 1.
In carrying out my improved invention, I employ a body A which is formed conical out of a sheet of metal, the edges of which are overlapped and soldered together. Arranged within the upper portion of the body A is a ring B carrying a bail B so that the funnel can be readily hung up upon a hook or any other suitable support, it of course being understood that the upper ends of the body A are formed straight for a slight distance against which the ring B is soldered so as to form a tight joint where- 'making the same is decreased. tube extends downwardly below the lower by all danger of the ring B becoming detached from the body A is prevented.
An opening is formed in the body A in which is soldered the curved upper end C of a vent tube 0 which extends downwardly out of the body and is adapted to be se cured to a split nozzle 1) which is soldered to the lower end of the body, said nozzle being slightly tapered as clearly shown and the edges of the split are soldered over the tube C so as to form a tight joint and it will be seen that. by this construction, the tube is secured within the nozzle at the same time the edges of the nozzle are secured to the same all in one operation, so that the expense of The vent ends of the nozzle and is cut off obliquely as shown at C so as to prevent the liquid passing through the nozzle from being carried upwardly through the vent tube by the air, as the air enters the end of the vent tube from the side so that the liquid is carried away from the same whereby 'all danger of it being drawn upwardly by the escaping air is prevented.
It will be seen that by this construction,
when the nozzle is placed within a bottle or any other vessel and the liquid is being poured into the same through the funnel, as the air passes out through the vent tube, it will enter the vent tube from the side in such a manner that liquid passing out. through the nozzle will not be drawn up into the vent tube thereby overcoming the difiiculties now existing with funnels of this character now in use as the air passing out through the vent tube will draw the liquid up through the same.
From the foregoing description, it will be seen that I have provided a funnel which is exceedingly simple and cheap in construction and one which is composed of a very few parts which are so connected together that they are not likely to become detached, and it will be seen that the parts are so connected as to dispense with so1der-to a certain extent. 7
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
