Description

Jan. 2, 1934. GREEN 1,942,282
FUNNEL Filed Nov. 13. 1951 IN VENTOR Loubs Green Attorney Patented Jan. 2, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE FUNNEL Louis Green, Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada Application November 13, 1931 Serial No. 574,866
This invention relates to improvements in a funnel. Its primary object being to provide a funnel havingv means of controlling the flow of the liquid through the same into a A further object of the invention is to providev means to permit the air from the 2 Claims.
container.
container to escape as the liquidows into the same.
With these and other objects in view that may appear while the description procee ds the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically set forth claimed and shown in the accompanying drawing forming part of application and in which:
this present Fig. 1 is a sectional'elevation of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan View on the line 2 Fig. 3 is a cross section on the Fig. 1.
-2 of Fig. 1. line 3--3 of Referring more in detail to the drawing in 'which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views it will be seen the invention consists in a conical shaped body 10 having a tube 11 depending therefrom said tube being made integral with said body. On the outside of the tube 11 is a layer body 10. At the upper end of the tube 14 is a small lug 16 with wires 1'7 connecting the same to the upper edge 18 of the body 10. This construction permits the tube to move up or down in the guide but limits the lateral movement of the same. A protrusion 19 also limits the downward movement of the tube 14 when it rests against the guide 15. At the lower end of the tube 14 is a somewhat conical shaped stopper 20 made of cork or other suitable substance. The center of the same is hollowed out and the stopper placed in position around the end of the tube after which the said tube is iiared out as shown at 21 this keeps the stopper 20 in position on the said tube. A ring 22 is placed in the top of the tube 14 by which the de handled.
vice may be (Cl. 22S- 36) It will be seen from the above that when the funnel is lifted by the ring the outlet will be closed by the stopper, which permits the funnel being filled and carried without the contents flowing therefrom. The outlet tube is then inserted in the container and the central tube depressed which permits the contents of the funnel to flow into the said container, the air escaping through the centrally disposed tube.
It is believed that the construction and advantages of the structure shown may be apparent from the foregoing paragraphs taken in connection with the accompanying drawing without further detailed description.
While the preferred embodiment of the invention has been disclosed it is understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement o-f co-operating parts may be resorted to within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I claim:
1. In a funnel of the type described, a conical shaped body having a depending outlet tube, a centrally disposed breather tube having its lower end flared outwardly, a guide bracket slidably supporting said breather tube, a stopper mounted on the lower end of said breather tube, adapted to engage the lower end of the outlet tube, and brace rods having one of their ends pivotally connected to the upper end of said breather tube and their opposite ends pivotally connected to the upper edge of said body.
2. In a funnel of the type described, a conical shaped body having a depending outlet tube, a centrally disposed breather tube, a guide bracket slidably supporting said breather tube, a stopper mounted on the lower end of said breather tube adapted to engage the lower end of the outlet tube, and brace rods having one of their ends pivotally connected to one side of said breather tube adjacent its upper end and their opposite ends pivotally connected to the upper edge of said body in spaced relation.
