ITEU TES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN W. GRIBBLE, OF TUTTLETOWN, CALIFORNIA.
WASHBOARD.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN WV. GRIBBLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tuttletown, in the county of Tuolumne and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Washboards; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this application.
This invention relates to improvements in household implements and particularly to wash boards used for rubbing or scrubbing clothes, the object of the invention being to produce a board of simple and inexpensive construction, and yet one which will have the advantage of permitting the water which is rubbed out of the clothes to quickly leave the clothes thereby cleansing them thoroughly and quickly. This object I accomplish by means of a suitable frame in which are firmly set a plurality of strong parallel kinked or fiuted wires spaced apart a suitable distance whereby the water may easily fall through, said construction also being simple and inexpensive; also by such other and further construction as will appear by a perusal of the following specification and claims.
In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
Figure l is a side elevation of the complete board. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the same.
Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings 1 designates the usual top board or support secured to which are side supporting members 2 to which is secured a wire 3 secured at its upper and lower ends and passed continuously back and forth between the members 2 and secured to said members at each turn by means of pins 4, the portions of said wires which are between said members being spaced apart a desired distance fand pro- Specication of Letters Eatent. 'X'Patented Apr. 12, 1910.

Serial No. 427,096.
vided with kinks or flutings 5, those kinks on adjacent portions being disposed alternately with respect to each other, whereby the fabric being washed will receive as rough a surface as possible without danger of injuring the same.
To aid in holding the wires 3 in position I secure top members 6 to said members 2 over said wires and at the upper and lower ends where there are no wires I secure intermediate auxiliary members 7 to fill the space made by the height of the wires.
In practice the construction just described presents a fine rubbing surface to the fabric and permits the dirty water to fall between the wires as fast as rubbed from the clothes.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have produced a wash board which substantially fulfils all the objects of the invention as set forth herein.
While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of my invention, still in practice many deviations from such detail may be resorted to without forming a departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and useful and desire to secureby Letters Patent is 1. A wash board comprising a top board, side boards thereon, a plurality of pins spaced apart on each side board, those pins on one side board being disposed alternately with respect to those pins on the other side board, a wire passed continuously back and forth around said pins, the tops of said pins being iiush with the top of said wire, such wire being corrugated between said side boards, top boards disposed over said pins and wire and removably secured to said side boards as described.
2. A wash board comprising a top member, a projecting cap on said top member, side members on said top member, a wire anchored to said side members 'and passed continuously back and forth from one of said side members to another, top boards disposed over said wire and secured to said side members by removable screws, said wire passing around said screws on one of said side members butrnot on the other, the remainingy turns of said Wire passing around pins projecting through said side members, said Wire being corrugated, the corrugations on one part of the Wire crossin side members being alternated With those on its next adjacent part.
from said In testimony whereof I aiX my signature in presence of t-Wo Witnesses.
JOHN W. GRIBBLE.
