Be it known that I, ALBERT MONTGOMERY PRESTON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Broxton, in the county of Coffee and State of Georgia, have invented a new and Improved Dancing Doll, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Among the principal objects which the present invention has in view are: to provide a novel construction for a doll and stand therefor, wherein provision is made for disassembling and packing the separated parts in the stand; to provide a construction whereby the doll is manipulated to simulate the movements of a dancing person; and to provide a construction for a doll of the character set forth which is simple, eilicient, and the wearing parts whereof are rapidly and easily replaced.
One embodiment of the present invention is disclosed in the structure illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which like characters of reference denote correspond ing parts in all the views, and in which Figure l is a perspective view of a doll and stand constructed and arranged in accordance with the present invention; Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of the same; Fig. 3 is a vertical cross section taken on the line 33 in Fig. 2; Fig. 1 is a vertical longitudinal section of the stand taken on the line 4 l in Fig. 3; and Fig. 5 is a front view of the doll structural frame.
The structure of the doll is designed to have as little weight as possible. For this purpose the body structure is composed of a wire frame, as illustrated in Figs. 2 and 5 of the drawings. The body frame consists ordinarily of vertical extensions 6, 6, which are bent and extended through a cork or wood pedestal 7 from the front of the completed doll to the back thereof, and then downwardly extended to form back frames 8, 8. At the lower extremity of the vertical extensions 6, 6, and at the front of the completed doll frame, the wires composing the frame are bent to form horizontal extensions 9, 9, the continuations of which are joined by a binding clip 10 and extended rearwardly through an opening 11 in the side of the stand 12. It is from the horizontal extensions 9, 9 that the upper leg sections 13, 13 are pivotally and loosely hung. For this purpose the leg sections 1.3 are provided with open ended slots 1 1, which Specification of Letters Patent.

are wide enough to freely pass the wire of the extensions 9 when the said sections are threaded over the said extensions. The sections 13 are held in position on the said extensions 9 by pins 15, 15 passed through and tightly held in perforations provided in the upper ends of the sections. Ample space is left between the pins 15, 15 and the extensions 9, 9 so that the leg sections 13, 13 may be vertically vibrated without interference from the supporting frame.
The visible members of the doll are the head 16 and shoulders molded and attached thereto. The head and shoulders are preferably constructed of some form of resilient material which may be attached by being forced over the pedestal 7. This construction may, of course, be varied by gluing the pedestal 7 to the head and shoulders 16. The remainder of the visible members are the arms 17, 17 and the lower legs and feet- 18, 18. The arms are loosely and pivotally connected to loops 19, 19 formed in the lower ends of extensions 20, 20 of the shoulder frame 21.. The shoulder frame 21 is passed through the pedestal 7 prior to bending the extensions 20, and is held snugly but movably in the perforation formed therefor in the said pedestal 7. The lower legs 18, 18 are pivotally joined by means of pins 22, 22 to the leg sections 13, 13. The junction at this point is made very loose and flexible. When the costume is placed on the doll, as seen in Fig. l, the wire frame of the body and the upper portion of the arms and the leg sections 13, 13 are concealed.
The doll is supported by means of the wire frame and by the extensions 9, 9 thereof. Beyond the clip 10 the doubled wires are coiled to form an eyelet 23. The eyelet 23 is provided to have threaded there through a doubled or twisted elastic support 24. The support 2 1 is twisted within the eyelet 23 in such manner as to rock the wire frame and depress the legs until the feet thereof touch and rest upon the platform of the stand. \Vhen so twisted the loops of the support 2 1 are threaded over pins 25, 25. Extensions 26, 26 beyond the eyelet 23 are coiled to form a second eyelet 27. Through the eyelet 27 is threaded an elastic support 28, the ends whereof are shaped to form loops 29, 29. The loops 29, 29 are sufliciently large to extend over an upper extension 30 of the strips 31, 31 which are fixedly secured to the side of the box 32 of ed and mounted, it is possible, by vibrating the dancing of a human figure.

The supporters 35 and 36 are provided with end loops which are buttoned over the heads of pins 37 and 38. The pins 37 and 38 are fixedly mounted in the edge of the strips 31, 31. The supporters 35 and 36 being flexible and resilient, an erratic movement is produced in the rod 34, permitting the same to move inward and outward. The supporters 35 and 36 perform the further function of raising the rod 34 to the initial operative position after the same is depressed. The rod 34 is depressed by a lever 39, which is pivotally connected thereto by a pin 40. The lever 39 is suspended by a supporter 41, which is constructed from resilient material and provided with end loops to be threaded over pins 42, 42. The lever 39 is provided with a handle 43 extended through a vertical slot 44 in the back of the box 32. It will be observed that all of the supporting pivots or mounts for the wire frame, the rod 34 and the lever 39, are formed of elastic and re silient material, thereby constituting an uncertain but lively pivotally connected or articulated structure.
In the operation of the invention, to produce a dancing action of the doll the lever 39 and the handle 43 thereof are depressed. In thus depressing the lever, as shown in Fig. 4, a projection 45 on the inner side thereof is drawn over and passes below the eyelet 27. This causes in the eyelet 27 a depression thereof, and at the same time a forward movement thereof. This action of the eyelet 27 is transmitted through the extension 26, the eyelet 23, and the extension 9 of the frame of the doll. The depression of the outer end of the extension 26 causes the rotation about the support 24, which lifts the doll and frame. The action, however, being transmitted through elastic supports, produces at the same time a trembly or rapid vibration, which is transmitted to the joints of the legs and arms in simulation of life or activity. 7 When the projection 45 passes below the eyelet 27, the support 28 thereof returns the eyelet and extension 26 connected therewith to its normal position, again striking the feet of the figure upon the platform 23 from which they have been raised. The reverse of this action is caused when the rod 34 is raised by the supporters 35 and 36 until the projection 45 rests above the eyelet 27.
The platform 33 is constructed in the manner illustrated in the drawings to form a hollow sounding chamber.
WVhen it is desired to pack the doll, for transportation, the parts are disassembled in the following manner. The head and shoulders are removed from the pedestal 7; the pins 15, 15 and 22, 22 are withdrawn; the leg sections are separated from the body frame and from each other; the support 24 is removed from the pins 25, 25 and the support 28 from engagement wit-h the ex tensions 30, 30; the supporters 35 and 36 are removed from the pins 37 and 38; the pin 40 is withdrawn from engagement with the rod 34 so that the lever 39 is separated therefrom and the supporter 41 is removed from the pins 42, 42. In this manner the parts are all separated and the capacity of the box 32 is sufiicient to receive the same. In this manner the doll or toy may be safely transported.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A dancing doll comprisin a body structure having loosely jointed leg sec tions; a box-like stand; a supporting. member extended within said stand; a resilient deflecting device for said supporting. mem- 105 ber; and an elastic supporting pivot for said supporting device.

A dancing doll comprising a body portion having loosely attached thereto loosely pivoted leg sections; a box-like stand; a sup- .11 porting member extended from said body portion pivot-ally supported in said box-like stand; a rocking extension of said supporting member; an elastic regulating device for the end of said rocking extension; securing 115 means for said regulating device fixedly mounted in said stand; and an elastic pivot for said supporting device.

A dancing doll comprising a body portion having loosely attached thereto loosely 120 pivoted leg sections; a box-like stand; a supporting member extended from said body portion pivotally supported in said box-like stand; a rocking extension of said supporting member; an elastic regulating device for 125 the end of said rocking extension; securing means for said regulating device fixedly mounted in said stand; an elastic pivot for said supporting device; and a hollow platform extension of said box-like stand.

A dancing doll comprising a body portion having loosely attached thereto loosely pivoted leg sections; a box-like stand; a supporting member extended from said body portion pivotally supported in said box-like stand; a rocking extension of said supporting member; an elastic regulating device for the end of said rocking extension; securing means for said regulating device fixedly mounted in said stand; an elastic pivot for said supporting device; a hollow platform extension of said box-like stand; a cam shaped member adapted to be reciprocated in the said box-like stand to impinge u on said rocking member to depress and def ect the same; and elastic supporting means for said cam shaped member.

A dancing doll comprising a body portion having attached thereto loosely pivoted leg sections; a box-like stand; a supporting member extended from said body portion pivotally supported in said box-like stand; a rocking extension of said supporting member; an elastic regulating device for the end of said rocking extension; securing means for said regulating device fixedly mounted in said stand; an elastic pivot for said supporting device; a hollow platform extension of said box-like stand; a cam shaped member adapted to be reciprocated in the said box-like stand to impinge upon said rocking member to depress and deflect the same; elastic supporting means for said cam shaped member; a lever pivotally connected with said cam shaped member and extended beyond the said box-like stand; and an clastic supporting pivot for said lever.

A dancing doll comprising a wire frame body portion; a pedestal adapted to receive a molded doll head; a wire frame pivotally mounted in said pedestal; molded arm members pivotally connected with said wire frame; leg members comprising upper and lower sections loosely jointed; a deepened slot in the upper leg extensions to receive said wire frame, said slot permitting independent vertical movement of the said leg sections; a vibrating and jumping mechanism connected with said wire frame said mechanism being pivotally supported in a box-like stand; and a sounding platform connected with said stand and arranged to receive the impact of the feet of the said doll.
7. A dancing doll comprising a wire frame body portion secured to and held by a necklike pedestal; detachable articulated leg members having slots at the upper end thereof for securement to the said wire frame; a detachable molded head section adapted to be frictionally held on said pedestal; a supporting frame embodying pivotal elastic supports detachably connected with the fixed frame of a box stand; and a box stand for said doll, having a cover and a storage capacity sullicient to receive the disassembled members of said doll and supporting frame.
