L. MARX COMBINED DOLflS CRADLE AND SOUND PRODUCING MEANS Filed Jan. 28, 1928 INVENTOR L o u \s M a r BY WM ATT NEYS Patented Mar. 4, 1930 PATENT FFlE' LOUIS MARX, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBI INED DOLLS CRADLE AND SOUND-PRODUO I NG LIEANS Application filed January as, 1928; Serial No. 250,152.
This invention relates to a combined dolls cradle and sound producing means.
The principal object of my invention coinp'rehends the provision ofa cradle for dolls,
combined with a sound producing meansoperative for simulating the cry of a young infant, the sound roducing means being associated with the cl movement of the cradle results in the operation of the sound producing means and in the production of a series of intermittent cries intended for association with a doll re- 1 ceivable by said cradle.
A further prime object of my invention relates to the combination with a dolls cradle of a selfcontained sound producing unit which is mounted on the cradle for a bodily movement thereon, the organization of the parts and the mounting of the sound producing unit being such that a rocking action imparted to the cradle produces a bodily movement and operation of said sound producing means.
A still further prime object of the invention resides in the provision of a. combined dolls cradle and sound producing means of the voice simulating type or crier as it is termed in the art; and an ancillary object of the invention relates to the production of a combined cradle and crier unit designed so that standard criers may be readily mounted on'cradles of standard construction to produce an effective and easily workable combination.
To the accomplishment of the foregoing and such other objects as will hereinafter appear, my invention consists in theelements and their relation one to the other, as hereinafter more particularly described and sought 0 'to be defined in the claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings which show the preferred embodiment of my invention, and in which I s.
Fig, lis a perspective view of the com bined dolls cradle and dolls crier of my invention showing a preferred form of .combination therebetween, I
'Fig. 2 is a view thereof taken on an enlargedscale in cross section in the plane of the line 2-2, Fig. 1, and
olls cradle so that a rocking ings, I show a preferred embodiment ofmy invention as comprising a cradle structure generally designated as A and a sound producing unit generally designated as B mounted for bodily movement on the cradle A and operated by a rocking movement of the cradle for producing a simulated crying of a young infant or other appropriate sound to be as: sociated with a doll or similar manikin receivable by said cradle A. i I
The cradle A may be of any standard design or construction and comprises a bed body 10 mountedfor swinging or rocking movement on runners 11, 11. In the com struotion exemplified in the drawings, the cradle A' is made collapsible, the body 10 thereof comprising a rectangular bedstead I frame 12 and the head and foot supports 13 v and 14 collapsibly mounted on the frame 12. The bedstead frame 12 comprises, in detail a pair of longitudinal members 15 and 16' connected together by the crossrods 17, 17 and a pair of rods 18 and 19 attached medially as at 20, 20 to the longitudinal members 15 and 16. The opposite ends of the longitudinal rods 18 and. 19 pivotally carry as at 21, 21 the head and foot supports 13 and 14; and the free ends of saidlongitudinal rods 18 and 19 serve also to resiliently hold the head and foot supports 13 and 1 1 in set-up or 001 lapsed positions and to act in conjunction with crossrods 22, 22 as a stop means for the set-up limiting position of the fore and rear 7 frame supports 13 and 1 1 inwardly towards each other, said cradle being shown in the figures in its set-up condition. f .While have shown a collapsible type of cradle embodying the principlesof my present invention, it will The sound producing means B comprises of coursebe understood that any other con a self-contained unit mounted on the cradle I A so that a rocking movement of the cradle produces the bodily and operative movement of the sound producing unit.
