Description

Patented Jen. l, 1924.
lnd
EDITH M. RICHARDS, 0F HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT.
PINCUSHION.
Application filed February 23, 1922. Serial No. 538,660.
To all w/wm t may concern Be it known that I, EDITH M. RICHARDS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State oi' Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pin cushions, of which the following is a speci- .tication My invention relates to improvements in pin-cushions of the form comprising the combination or' a doll-igureJ and a pincushion, and the object of my improvement is to produce a combination of a full-length igure and a pin-cushion structure that encircles the body or said figure in lieu of a dress structure and that, furthermore, is provided at the head with a head band of ribbon that is extended to provide means for suspension, and, also, as a detail, there may be provided a decoration at the back in the form of a bow or fanciful arrangement ci' ribbon that is supported from the pincushion structure.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved pin-cushion doll in the suspended position.
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the same in the upright position, the suspension ribbon being in part broken away.
Figure 3 is a rear elevation of the same.
My improved pin-cushion doll comprises a doll-figure 10 in the form of an erect, fulllength image of fanciful form of an infant or small child that is provided around the body 11 in lieu of other clothing or a dress with a pin-cushion structure 12` that extends generally from below the arms 13 downwardly to adjacent and just above the knees, the major and lower parts of the legs 14 being' exposed and uncovered and the feet 15 may or may not be covered with slippers The pin-cushion Structure l2 is puffed outwardly and rounded and stuffed in any proper manner so as to be serviceable as a pin-cushion.
At the back and at the upper border of the pin-cushion structure 12 is mounted a decoration in the form of a bow 16 of ribbon.
The head 17 is encircled generally transversely by a headband 18 of ribbon that is smooth at the front 19 and is knotted at the back, as shown at 20, and the ends 21 of the ribbon are preferabl Y appreciably extended in length and terminate in the form of a bow 22. Thus the ribbon ends 2l serve to enclose a loop 23 that is relatively large and is adapted to be slipped over a support, which may be a projection on a dresser or bureau, or a nail or hook.
Thus the device will be convenient for use and at the same time will serve as an attraction as a novelty.
Shoulder straps 25 of ribbon may be provided extending over the shoulders of the igure 10 and connected by the ends to the pin-cushion structure 12.
As described, the pin-cushion structure is of globular form with axis and has a supporting structure of unique form projected through said opening.
vSuch form comprises a doll figure, having arms, shoulders, and head projected above the upper end of the pin-cushion structure and projected below the lower end thereof are the knees, the lower parts of the limbs,
and the feet.
In one position, the feet are adapted to serve as the base or support proper. In another position, the head band serves as the connection with the loop of ribbon that opcrates as a suspension device, the eective connection with the head being positioned at the rear side.
In the suspended position the supporting figure is tilted at an angle. The axis of the figure and of the pin-cushion structure being substantially coincident, the latter is also tilted, the equatorial plane being at an appreciable angle to the horizontal.
As mentioned, the pin-cushion structure serves in lieu of clothing for the doll-structure and such clothing or covering is con lined substantially to the body or torso of the figure.
The tilting position follows because the head is of appreciable thickness, the supporting connection is at the rear side thereof, and the center of gravity is inside the pin-cushion structure.
Fig. 1 shows the structure in the suspended position, and with the tilting effect slightly exaggerated.
claim as my invention In'combination in a pin-cushion structure,
an opening along the a pin-cushion body of globular form, a core having the body portion positioned as a ligure in the orm'of :L doll extended along head-band around said head and having the the axis of Said body and having the head end portions extended from said body poilo and the legs projected beyond the upper and *51011 at the real' of Said head and united in 5 lower Surfaces, respectively, of the ouhion 10010 OUH t0 lOVdS th SUSBHS'IOD'SUPPOI body, and a ribbon serving .as e suspension PIOPGI. Y support for Said structure, and seid rib-bon Miss EDTH M. RICHARDS.
