To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TVILLIAM S. Hm'r'r, citizen of the United States, residing at Draketown, in the county of Haralson and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow-Frames, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to cultivators and refers particularly to a novel formation of frame for supporting plows.
An object of this invention is to construct a novel frame whereby the same may be adjusted to dispose the plows in various angles according to the nature of the work to be performed, and which at the same time adjusts the line of draft with respect to the plows so as to insure a straight line of draft with the frame when the plows are adjusted to the desired position.
The invention has for another object the provision of means whereby the plow handles are adjusted with respect to the inclination of the plows and therefore move rigidly with the same so that the operator is enabled to gain the proper leverage to actuate the plow during the employment of the device.
For a full understanding of the invention reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved frame. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, parts thereof being shown in section. Fig. 3 is a detailed perspective view of the upper end of the plow foot, and Fig. 4 is a detailed View of the handle iron which is carried by the plow foot.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawing by the same reference characters.
Referring to the drawing the numeral 10 designates a plow beam which is formed of a bar of metal which is flattened upon its opposite sides and provided with a clevis 11 at its forward extremity. The rear extremity of the bar or plow beam 10 is curved upwardly as at 12 and terminates in a semicircularly curved portion 13 which extends downwardly and backwardly. The plow foot comprises two strips of material which are arranged in parallel to form arms 14 and 15 and which support between their lower extremities a beveled plug 15 preferably welded in position, the arms 14 and 15 being curved edgewise and forwardly to register with the semi-circularly curved portion 13 and to form a continuation of the circularly curved portion of the same at the lower end of the foot. The curved portion 13 is provided with a longitudinal slot 16 at its rear extremity through which is extended a clamping bolt 17 which terminates at its opposite ends in apertures formed through the arms 14 and-15. The upper forward ends of the arms 14 and 15 are provided with longitudinal slots 18 through which is passed a clamping nut 19 which is engaged at its intermediate portion through an aperture formed in the forward end of the curved portion 13 adjacent the portion 12. At a point spaced below the rear ex tremity of the circularly curved portion 13 a handle iron is positioned which comprises a portion of flattened metal provided with a base 20 for engagement between the arms 14 and 15 where it is rigidly retained at such position by the employment of rivets 21, or the like. The upper end of the base 20 is provided with a rearwardly offset portion 22 which supports upon the opposite sides thereof the lower ends of the handles 23; The lower end of the offset portion 22 is provided with a pivotpin 23 for supporting the lower ends of the handles 23 while the upper end of the offset portion 22 is provided with a plurality of apertures 24 through which a locking pin 25 is engaged to adjustably support the handles 23 in the desired angle. The handles 23 are retained in rigid spaced relation by means of a crossbar 26 engaged between the upper ends of the handles 23 for such purpose. The plows are secured upon the lower extremity of the foot in any well-known manner as this formation of the plow foot is common among devices of this character.
In operation when it is desired to adjust the plow foot to various angles the clamping bolts 17 and 19 are loosened to permit the sliding movement of the arms 14 and 15 whereupon the bolts 17 and 19 are clamped tightly against the sides of the arms 14 and 15 to retain the foot in such adjusted position. At the same time that the arms 14 and 15 are moved the handle iron is likewise moved and caused to throw the handles 23 into either an upward or a downward angle according to the adjustment made to the plow foot. It is also readily observed that the handles 23 can be adjusted irrespective of the plow foot by the disposition of the locking pin 25 in the desired aperture 24.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new is 1. In a frame as specified including a beam, a circularly curved portion formed upon the rear end of said beam, circularly curved arms engaged upon the opposite sides of the curved portion of said beam, said curved portion upon said beam having a longitudinal slot formedrin the rear end of the same, a clamping bolt carried by said arms for engagement in the slot, said curved arms having registered slots formed ,in the upper ends of the same, a clamping bolt carried by said beam for-engagement at its opposite ends through the registered slots, said arms being formed at their lower ends into a plow foot, and a pair of handlesrearwardly diverged from said arms.

A frame as specified including a beam, a circularly curved portion depended from the rear end of said beam, .a pair of curved arms disposed in re istered relation upon the opposite sides of said curved portion, said arms being integrally formed to provide a plow foot, a handle iron riveted be tween the lower ends of said arms and extended backwardly therefrom, a pair of handles pivotally mounted upon said handle iron, said handle iron having a plurality of apertures formed in the upper end of the same, a locking pin engaged through said handles and said handle iron to retain said handles in various positions and clamping nuts engaged through said handles and said curved portion for securing said foot in adjusted position.
8. A plow frame including a beam, a curved portion formed on said beam, a pair of curved arms carriedby said portion and having longitudinal slots formed in the opposite ends of the same, a beveled plug welded between the lower ends of said arms, said curved portion having a longitudinal slot formed in the rear end of the same, a clamping bolt carried by said arms for engagement in the longitudinal slot of said curved portion, a second clamping bolt car ried by said curved portion for engagement in the slots formed in said arms, and a pair of handles rearwardly diverging from said arms.
