To' all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, ARTHUR I. Rasi-I, WILLIAM J. TREVILLIAN, and AMsnY M. REsH, at Freeport, in the county of Stephenson and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Razor-Blade Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to holders for use in sharpening the blades of safety razors,

the object of the invention beingto provide a simple, reliable and safe device of thecharacter set forth by razon blade may be readily secured to and detached from the holder and one edge of the blade covered while sharpening the other edge, the blade being covered by a guard which is reversibly mounted on the handle so that either edge of the'bla'de may be protected and covered by said guard.

lVith the above and other objects in view, the nature of which will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as herein fully described, illustrated and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings z-Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the blade and guard in their properrelation to the handle of the device. Fig. 2 is an end View of the same. Fig. 3 is a lan view -of the handle, showin the method) of inserting and remov ing' a b ade. Fig. 4v is a detail cross section on the line 4-4 of Fi 3. Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the han le, showing a blade held thereby and the guard broken away in section. Fig. 6 is a spring clip and guard.

The handle of the device is divided ,or split longitudinally to comprise a pair of twin sectlons l and 2 which are permanently connected at one end by means of a suitable fastener 3 thus adapting the opposite ends of the handle sections to be sprung apart asv shown in Fig. 3 for the purpose of introducing and removin a safety razor blade indicated at 4. Whi e the blade 4 is' illustrated as of the double edge or Gillette type, it will be apparent that other styles and forms of safety razor blades may be as readily attached to the holder.

To adapt the handle particularly to blades described, one of the handle sections is provided with studs 5 projecting from the inner face thereof and adapted to citizens of the United States, residing i tratedin Fig. 2.

In order to facilitate sliding the combined guard and spring clip into engagement with the grooves of the handle sections, the end portions of the flanges or ribs 7 are reverselyT beveled as shown at v9 to form the flaring entrance to the space between' said ribs as shown in Fig. 6. This enables the clip' to be readily slipped over the end of the handle sections when the latter are pressed toward each other after which the spring clip will maintain the handle sections in clamping engagement with the razor blade. After sharpening one edge of the blade, the clip may be removed and slid back in a reversed position so as to cover the other edge of the blade. ,p

When used in connection with razor blades not provided with holes, the studs 5 may be omitted. i

A holder for use in shar ening safety razor blades consisting of a ongitudinally split handle through which the razor blade is adapted to be inserted, one section of the handle being provided with studs, the other section of the handle being provided with recesses for receiving the extremities of the studs, said studs being adapted for insertion throu h the apertures of the blade to hold the b ade ainst movement between the sections of t e said handle, the said handle having the outer surfaces of its sec-I tions formed to provide longitudinally eX- tending grooves which open at their outer ends onto the ends of the said handle sections, and a combined s rin clamp and guard slidable on the han le, t e said guard being substantially of U-form in transverse section and provided with spaced portions whose spring ends are formed to provide longitudinally extendingl ribs which are adapted for engagement in the grooves in the handle sections to cause the sections to yieldingly engage each other and 'to vbe moved into clamping engagement with the opposite sides of the razor blade, said sections of the vhandle bein@ constructed to cause one edge of the blbade to protrude from the handle and the other ed e of the blade to be housed between the wa ls of the said combined guard and clamp.
