RAZOR-BLADE HOLDER.

to produce a blade holder or blade strop'ping device of simple construction and possessing novel features, that will be hereinafter pointed out.

ln the drawings, 1 indicates the handle of the holder, consisting preferably of a metal tube, 2 the clamping or holding member and A a safety razor blade held therein. The holder, 2, consists of two parts, 2", 2, between which the blade is placed and held. These are preferably in the form of parallel plates, each formed with acentral raised portion 7 adapted to rest upon the face of the strop when the device is in use, and thereby give to the blade the proper inclinati on relative to the face of the strop, or other sharpening device. The parts 2 are united at their inner ends and are preferably formed into half cylindrical or tubular form or shape, whereby there is produced a short arm, 3, adapted to be inserted into the open end of the tubular handle 1. Each clamping member is provided with depressions or perforations, 4-, 4, along its sides, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, corresponding to the projections or ribs or other interlocking devices with which these safety razor blades are commonly provided for holding them securely when in use. At the opposite or outer end of one of the clamping members is provided a projecting lug 2 on which is 5 pivotally mounted a swinging clasp 5, adapted to engage the projections 6, 6, at the 'outer ends of the

and thereby hold them firmly together: The clamping plates .2, 2, are formed of metal and stamped to form the raised rib or bar 7, and on the inside or between the plates to fornia channel or recess 7 to prevent the opposite edge of the blade from coming in contact with the holder and injuring its cutting edge I i My invention is particularly adapted for use as a stropping device for safety razor blades, and especially blades formed of thin sheet steel or paper steel, and having two cutting edges, and is so arranged that the. blade may be removed from the clamping member. and reversed, in order that both edges of the blade may be sharpened.

I prefer toprovide the clamping members with interlocking mean s'or depressions along both sides thereof, those on one side being arranged differently from those on the op-- I posite, so as to accommodate the several kinds of razor blades now in common use. I also prefer to provide the inner face of the clamping members with a longitudinally extending groove 9, whereby razor blades having ribs may slide in between the clamping'members and be clamped thereby; and also to form transverse grooves 1O, 10, to accommodate blades having transverse ribs or projections, such as blades shown in my application executed April 5, 1906.

In the form of the invention shown in igs. 5 and 6, I have shown the blade holder ascomprising two parts, 8, 8, which are secured together at 9', at their outer ends. At the opposite ends the clamping members are r'educedand bent into half tubular shape in order to be inserted into the end of the handle 1. In this form of the invention the reduced end portions operate as the clamp ing means, and when inserted in the handle the said clamping members are securely held together and firmly grip the razor blade.

What I claim is: i

1. An integral holder for a safety razor blade, comprising a pair'of plates arranged to clamp and hold the blade between them and formed withreduced portionsat one end 'of the holder, in combination with a hollow handle arranged to receive the reduced ends of the clamping plates.

2. In a safetymazor blade holder, the combination with a handle, of a pan of clamping m mbers, means for locking the blade in position between the clamping members,

and mcans'for clamping the said members together, the said clamping members being, provided with central longitudinal ribs that are extended beyond the clamping portions of the said members and form reduced arms that are adapted to be inserted into the. handle, substantially as set forth.

.A holder for a safety razor blade, com prising a pair of plates between which the blade is clamped, the plates being struck up to form external longitudinal rigs, and internal recesses adapted to come opposite each other and constitute a channel or recess in which the edge of the clamped port-ion of the razor blade may lie. i

4. In a razor blade holder, the combina-- tion of a separable handle, a pair of clamping members united together'at one end and adapted to receive between them a razor blade, and connections between the opposite ends of the clamping members and the bandle for clamping them together-to hold the blade, substantially as set forth.

5. In a safety razor blade holder, the combination with the hollow handle, of a pair of .-lam )ing members, a pivoted clasp secured to one of the members, one end of the.

clamping members being reduced and arranged to be inserted in the handle, and the opposite end being provided with projections arranged to be engaged by the clasp to hold the clamping members in. engagement, substantially as set forth.

6. In a razor blade holder, the combination of a hollow handle, a pair of clamping members united together at one end and adapted to receive between them a razor blade, and projections extending from the clamping members at one end and arranged when the members are brought together to lie side by side and to fit within the said hollow handle.

A holder for safety razor blades to be used while stropping them, comprising a pair of clamping plates united near one end of the holder, the clamping plates being pro vided along one edge wlth interlocking means for holding blades of one construction and alongthe opposite edge with other interlocking means for holding blades of different construction, and means for holding the plates together in blade-clamping position.

8. A holder for safety razor blades comprising a pair of plates united near one end It is hereby certified that in Letters Patent N 0. 948,864, granted February 8, 1910, upon the application of Christopher W.
