SALVE OLSON, OF WALWORTH, WISCONSIN.
FILE ATTACHJLIENT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SALVE OLSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at VVal- Worth, in the county of Walworth and State of IVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in File Attachments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in files and especially to the class of triangular files and it has for an object to provide a device which will furnish a handle for the end of the file which ordinarily does not afford protection to the hands of a person using it.
Referring to the drawings which form a part of the specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a file equipped with my device. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the file with the gripping plate secured thereto. Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the file with the gripping plate secured thereto. Fig. a is a transverse sectional view ofmy file attachment.
Referring to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 1 is a file of any preferred type but shown here as a triangular file, the outer end of which for a small space is not roughened, upon which end is a plate of metal or any preferred substance 2 secured to the file 1 by means of lugs 3, said lugs 3 being integral with the plate 2 and are bent downwardly over the file after it has been inserted between said lugs in order that they may securely hold the plate 2 to the file. The plate as shown in the drawings, is circular but may be of any preferred shape, and the lugs are stamped from the central portion thereof, the plane of one of said lugs being in the upper quadrants of said circular plate and the other in the lower quadrants of said plate, said lugs projecting upwardly and bent toward one another.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 8, 1909.
Patented Mar. 29, 1910.
Serial No. 500,848.
In using the herein described device, the end of a triangular file is inserted between the said upwardly projecting lugs, one flat face of the file resting against the face of the plate and said lugs engaging two inclined faces of the file. Grasping the handle of the file with the right hand, the opposite end carrying a plate is grasped between the thumb and fore finger and the work of filing is begun. Pressure being applied mostly through the left hand, leaving the right hand for guiding purposes, under ordinary circumstances subjects said left hand to continual bruising, but through the use of this device all bruising of the hands is obviated and filing made simple. lVhen so desired this device can be readily removed and ap plied to any other file or the file used without the said plate.
That I claim is:
1. In a device of the character described, the combination with a file; of a plate having lugs stamped from the center thereof, said lugs pointing upwardly and toward one another, and the end of said file being grasped therebetween.
2. In a device of the character described, the combination with a file; of a circular gripping plate having a pair of lugs stamped from the central portion thereof, said lugs projecting upwardly and toward one another and receiving the end of said file.
3. In a device of the character described, the combination with a file; of a circular gripping plate having lugs stamped in alinement therefrom on the middle point of the line of its aXial center, said lugs projecting upwardly and toward one another and en gaging the end of said file.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
SALVE OLSON.
Witnesses:
