Description

H. DINGLE.
SClSSORS.
APPLICATION FILED NOV- 20. 1918. 1,300,932. Patented Apr. 15, 1919.
ANA A HERBERT DINGLE, 0F MINAS GERAES, BRAZIL.
SCISSOBS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 15, 1919.
Application filed November 20, 1918. Serial No. 263,401.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, HERBERT DINGLE, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Villa Nova De Lima, Minas Geraes, Brazil, South America, have invented new and useful Improvements in Scissors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in sewing implements and the principal object of the invention is to provide a pair of scissors with means thereon for supporting a spool of thread, a thimble and needles.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple and durable in construction, reliable and efficient in operation and one which can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a minimum cost.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifi cally pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like; or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in Which:-,
Figure 1 is a side view of the invention with parts broken away,
Fig. 2 is an edge view, and
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 3-3 of, Fig. 1.
As shown in these views the scissors indicated at 1 have a tubular member 2 comlected with one of the handles thereof, said member extending at right angles to the handle and toward the other handle. As shown the scissors are-so made that a space is formed between the handles when the same are in; closed position, to receive said tubular member. The other handle is provided with an' opening 3 which is in alinement with said tubular member. The said member is provided with an open end and is adapted to receive sewing needles. A spool'of cotton,
such as indicated at 4 is adapted to be placed over said member and said member is provided with a shoulder 5 to form a seat for said spool. 6 indicates a cap made of any suitable material and of such a shape as to frictionally hold a thimble 7 when the same is placed thereover. This cap is provided with a central recess 8 for receiving the end of the tubular member and when the parts are assembled the face of said cap will engage the end or head of the spool. When the handles of the scissors are closed the thimble will project through the opening 3.
It will thusbe seen that the implements necessary for all sewing operations are assembled together and may be carried from place to place without difficulty or without danger of misplacing any of the articles.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be'understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. The combination with the handles of a pair of shears or scissors, of a tubular member connected with one handle and projecting toward the other handle for receivin needles and forming a support for a spoo of thread, and a cap engaging the end of said member and adapted to receive a thimble.
2. The combination with the handles of a pair of shears or scissors, of a tubular mem ber connected with one handle and projecting toward the other, said member having a shoulder thereon for supporting a spool carried by the member and the interior of the member receiving needles, a thimble support engaging the end of the member and passing through an opening formed in the other handle.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
HERBERT DINGLE.
