Y L WEIWERS COMBINED MOP HEAD AND WRINGER. APPLICATION FILED JULYQ, 1909.
ZZZZJ26556S:
i/ZZKMW. 6 55M UNITED STATES PATENT FFTQF.
LOUIS WEIWERS, 0F WAUBAY, SOUTH DAKOTA.
COMBINED MOP HEAD AND WRINGER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS Vmwnns, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Vaubay, in the county of Day and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Mop Heads and Vringers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to mops, and has for its object to provide an improved wringing attachment therefor.
To the above ends, the invention consists of the novel devices and combinations of de vices hereinafter described and defined in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings which illustrate the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings: Figure l is a view in side elevation showing the improved mop with a wringing attachment applied thereto; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the parts shown in Fig. 1 with some parts broken away; Fig. 3 is a plan view of the detachable member of the wringing attachment; and Fig. 41 is a section taken on a line k X* of Fig. 3.
The mop illustrated is of standard construction, and of the parts thereof, the numeral 1 indicates the mop handle or lever having secured to its lower end, a clamping head 2 and cooperating clamping bail 3, slidably mounted thereon. This clamping bail 3 is pivotally connected to an operating lever at which in turn, is fulcrumed to a spring-pressed collar 5. Said head 2 and hail 3 securely clamp and hold the mop cloth 6. A fiat squeezing plate 7 is rigidly secured to the lever or handle bar 1, and to its head 2 and for cooperation therewith, a second squeezing plate 8 is provided. This plate 8 is rigidly secured to a lever or handle bar 9, shown as provided with a pronged end terminating in hooks 10 that are de tachably engageable with the transverse portion of the bail 3, as shown in Fig. 1.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 9, 1909.
Serial No. 506,666.
At one edge, the clamping plate 8 is preferably provided with a projecting flange S which will serve to drain the water into apail or receptacle when the mop cloth (3 is squeezed between the plates 7 and 8 while said plates are inclined toward the said flange 8 and toward the receptacle. As is evident, when the. plate 8 is connected to the mop as shown in Fig. 1, and the two levers or handle bars 1 and 9 are pressed together, the squeezing plates 7 and 8 will tightly press the mop cloth or rag (3 and squeeze the water therefrom.
hen the mop is to be used, the squeezing plate 8 is, of course, detached therefrom. The permanently attached squeezing plate 7 does not interfere with the use of the mop, and furthermore tends to prevent splashing of the water from the mop.
The entire device is very simple and of small cost, at the same time, itis sufficient for the purposes had in view.
\Vhat I claim is:
1. The combination with a mop handle having a cloth clamping head and an attached squeezing plate, of a second squeezing plate having a handle bar and provided with means for detachably pivoting the same to the clamping head, substantially as described.
2. A device of the kind described, comprising a handle bar provided with a clam ping head and cooperating clamping bail, of a squeezing plate permanently attached to said handle bar and to said clamping head, and a second clamping plate provided with a handle bar projecting therefrom at one end, and provided at its other end with projecting hooks that are detachably engageable with the clamping bail of said handle to pivotally connect the two said squeezing plates, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LOUIS WEIWERS.
