J. J. BLUMBERG.
GOLF BALL'MARKER. APPLICATION FILED 18613.6, 1909.

Awe/War 7/7 ears as earn STATES i ATENT Flfl llfililo GOLF-BALL MARKER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J ACOB J OSEPH BLUM- BERG, a resident of the city of Toronto, in the county of York, Province of Ontario, Dominion of Canada, and a citizen of the United States, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Golf-Ball Markers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device for marking golf balls for identification, and has for its object to provide a simple, inexpensive and compact article of this nature which may be used to stamp the initials, name or other insignia on balls.
WVith this and other objects in view as will hereinafter appear, my device will now be fully set forth and described, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure l is a sectional view taken longitudinally through the center of the device, and Fig. 2 is a perspective View of a combined cap and inking pad used in connection with my device.
Referring more particularly to said drawings, l is a cylindrical casing of aluminum, brass or other suitable material, which has one end turned or rolled inwardly as at 1 to form a gutter or recess and to provide a guide for centering a golf ball. The opposite end of said casing 1 is provided with a cap or cover 6, which fits over the outside of said casing and has a central aperture 6 formed therein, said cap being inwardly flanged around said aperture to form a seat for a block -2, which is slidably fitted in said casing, and has a central grip or punch 4: which projects through said aperture 6. Within said casing 1, said block 2 is peripherally provided with a shoulder 4', against which is seated one end of a coil spring 5. Said coil spring lies against the interior of casing 1 and has its opposite end engaged in the recess formed behind flange 1. Thus when the plunger 4 is pushed inwardly, block 2 is carried longitudinally through said casing in opposition to coilspring 5, and presents its face through the Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 6, 1909.
Serial No. 481,837.
flange 1'. The face of said block 2 is provided with a raised portion 3 on which is mounted a suitable die or type, as 3. A cap 7 is provided for the casing, which fits over said flange l, and carries thereon a pad 8, for inking the type 3.
The operation of my improved device is obvious, and it is also evident that my'construction is not necessarily limited to the particular structure set forth, but that I may Vary the device within the limits of the appended claims.
l/Vhat I claim is:
1. A golf ball marker, comprising in combination, a cylindrical casing having an illwardly rolled flange at one end to provide a guide for centering a golf ball and a centrally apertured cover at its opposite end,
a block having an annular shoulder fitted within said casing, and having a plunger projected through said apertured cover, a coil spring bearing between said flange and said shoulder to maintain said block in the rear of said casing and a type mounted on said block.
2. A golf ball marker comprising in combination, a cylindrical casing having an inwardly rolled flange at one end and a centrally apertured cover fitted over its opposite end, a block having an annular shoulder fitted within said casing to bear against its inner surface, a plunger formed on said block and projected through said apertured cover, a coil spring located between said block and said casing and bearing between said flange and said shoulder to maintain said block in the rear of said casing, a type mounted on said block, and a cap having an inking surface adapted to fit over said flange.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
