UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
.IOIIN NAPOLEONBASI-IAIV, OF LAKE GENEVA, XVISOONSIN.
TlRE-PULLER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 61 2,188, dated October 11, 1898. Application filed August 9, 1898. Serial No. 688,189. (No model.)
l To all whom Lt may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN NAPOLEON BA' SHAW, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Lake Geneva, in the county of Walworth and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tire-Upsetting Devices, of which the following is a, specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a tire-upsetting device which is exceedingly cheap and simple in its'construction, easily operated, efficient, reliable, and convenient in use.
With this object in view and such others as may hereinafter appear the novel features of the invention consist in the particular construction of the various parts and in the manner of arrangement or combination of said parts, all of which will be described hereinafter and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure l is a side elevation showing my invention as applied. Fig. 2 is avertical' sectional view.
Referring by letters of reference to the draw ings, A represents a base having an upright B, provided with a right-angular arm O, the face of which is enlarged, as shown at D, and provided with a perpendicular aperture E, adapted to receive an internal screw-threaded cup F,heldin place byaset-screw G. Mounted within this cup is a threaded shaft H, which is made to traverse therein by the handle I.
The lever end of the shaft is provided with a cap J, which is loosely mounted thereon,so as to allow the shaft to revolve freely therein. The cap having been brought to bear upon the felly of the wheel will thus rest in Mounted upon the base in a recess K is a rest-block L, provided with a projection M upon the bottom thereof, adapted to engage the recess and to support the 'block, which is also provided with another projection N upon the top and approximately near the edge thereof, so as to form an angular face 0, in which to place the wheeltire. This block may be made in various sizes to receive tires of different thicknesses. It will thus be seen that by placing the tire 'upon the rest-block in the face 0 and forcing the cap J down upon the felly by rotating the shaft II the tire will be readily removed.
I deem the foregoing explanation sufficiently plain, so that the invention will be readily understood, the extreme simplicity rendering an elaborate description unnecessary.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a tire-upsetting device, the combination of a base having an upright with an angular arm, the free end of which is enlarged and provided with a perpendicular aperture therein, the said aperture adapted to receive an internal screw-threaded cup, held therein by a set-screw, of a threaded shaft mounted in the same cup adapted to be operated by a handle, of a cap loosely mounted upon the lower end of the said shaft,of ablock mounted upon the base in a recess, the said block having a projection upon its top approximately near the edge, forming with respect to itself and the said block an angular face, substantially as shown and for the purpose set forth.
JOHN NAPOLEON BASI-IAI".
