AUGUST OSCAR NEUHAUS, OF ISNY, GERMANY.
WHIP-HANDLE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUoUs'r OSCAR NEU- I-IAUS, a subject of the King of Viirtemberg, residing at Isny, l Niirtemberg, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Whip-Handles, of which the following is a specification, reference being hadtherein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to whips, more particularly a whip handle and the object thereof is to provide in amanner as hereinafter set forth a whip handle which shall be simple in its construction, strong, durable, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown the preferred embodiment of the invention but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings, wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, Figure 1 is a view of a whip handle in accordance with this invention, and Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view thereof.
A whip handle in accordance with this invention comprises a body portion formed of a length of cane slitted to provide four quarter-round sections a, a a and a In tel-posed between and secured to the cane sections are the inlayers Z), 6 and 6 Each of the inlayers is formed from a series of superimposed short pieces of paste-board,

gradually increasing in width toward the lower ends of the cane. The inlayer Z9 is secured between the sections a and a the inlayer b is secured between the sections a and a and the inlayer 6 extends between and is secured to the sections a, a a and a and also secured to the inlayers b and If. The cane sections and inlayers are secured together by a suitable adhesive.
The size and thickness of the inlayers can be as desired, depending on the diameter of the whip handle.
What I claim is:
1. A whip handle consisting of a body portion of cane slitted to provide a plurality of sections, inlayers interposed between and secured to said sections, each of said inlayers consisting of a series of super-imposed independent paste-board members, one of said inlayers extending between the other of said inlayers and of greater width than either of the other inlayers.
2. A whip handle consisting of a body portion of cane slitted to provide a. plurality of sections, inlayers interposed between and secured to said sections, each of said inlayers consisting of a series of super-imposed independent paste-board members, one of said inlayers extending between the other of said inlayers and of greater width than either of the other inlayers, the outer edge of said inlayers constituting a continuation of the periphery of said sections.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
AUGUST OSCAR NEUHAUS. WVitnesses ALFRED GAUoH, VVILHELM GULLEN.
