tinirnn STATES PATENT orricn.
JOSEPH ALBEBY GABIOUD, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
TROUSERS STRETCHER AND HANGER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH ALBERY GrABIOUD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers Stretchers and Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a trousers stretcher and hanger, and has for its object to provide a device of this character which shall be simple and inexpensive of construction and eflicient and reliable in use.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device as mentioned made up of several detachable parts in order that the same may be packed in a suit case for traveling purposes.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
lVith these objects in view my invention consists in such a novel construction and arrangement of parts all as will be hereinafter fully set forth and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing my trousers stretcher and hanger in its preferred form, and Figs. 2, 3, 4, and 5 are detail sectional views showing the construction and connection of the several parts of the device.
Referring now to the drawings 1 indicates a vpair of trousers, the same being shown Clamps 2 and 3 are provided to receive respectively the upper and lower portions of the trousers, said clamps being adjustably connected by the rods 4 and and the lugs 6 and 7 secured to said clamps respectively. The clamp 2 comprises wooden bars 8 and 9 which are connected by bolts 10 provided with the square thumb nuts 11 and the washers 12, the latter being nailed to the bar 8. The head 13 of each bolt 10 is disposed flush with the outside of the bar 9 to prevent the same from coming in contact with the wall of a room on which the device Specification of Letters Patent.

may hang. The clamp 8 comprises wooden bars 14 and 15 which are connected by bolts 10 in a manner similar to the connection of the bars 8 and 9, a section taken on line m'w being the same as the section shown in Fig. 4 taken on line of Fig. 1. A reduced extension 16 is provided on the rod 5, the same terminating in a conical tip 17. A thrust bearing is thus formed in the lug 7 which will tend to hold the clamp 3 in a substantially horizontal position. To turn the rod at the tapped thumb-piece 18 is provided and adapted to screw onto the threaded portion 19 of said rod, the threaded connection at 20 being provided merely to render the rods 4 and 5 separable, in order that they may be packed in a suit case. The lug 6 is tapped at 21 to receive the rod 4.
To use the device the thumb nuts 11 are run out to the extremity of the bolts 10 and the clamping bars pulled apart to provide clearance for the trousers which are then placed in position. The thumb nuts 11 are then tightened and the thumb-piece 18 turned a few times in order to stretch the trousers. By this means wrinkles will be removed from the trousers and they will have substantially the same appearance as when pressed. The eye in the thumb-piece 18 is obviously provided so that the trousers may be suspended from a suitable hook.
While I have shown what I deem to be the preferable form of my trousers stretcher and hanger, I do not wish to be limited thereto, as there might be slight modifications of the same which would be comprehended within the scope of my invention.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a device of the class described, a rod having an internally threaded portion at one end thereof and a reduced conical extremity adapted to be journaled in a perforated lug provided therefor, a second threaded rod adapted to be screwed onto the threaded portion of said first named rod and onto a threaded lug provided therefor, a tapped thumb-piece adapted to be screwed onto said second rod for turning the same,
l l t said threaded lug being centrally secured In testimony whereof I have signed my to a clamp composed of two co-extensive name to this specification in the presence of Wooden bars bolted together, and said first two subscribing Witnesses.
named lug being centrally secured to a JOSEPH ALBERY GABIOUD. clamp similar to but shorter than said first WVitnesses:
named clamp, substantially as and for the JOSHUA R. H. Po'r'rs,
pnrposesspecified. JANET E. HOGAN.
