UNITED STATES PATEN T OFFICE.,
EDMUND A. CHAMBERLIN, OF ABERDEEN, SOUTH DAKOTA.
CURTAIN-BRACKET.
To all whom fit may concern:
Be it known thatl I, EDMUND A. CHAM- nnRLIN, a citizen of the United States, resid ing at Aberdeen, in the county of Brown and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and uset'ul Improvements in Curtain-Brackets, of which the -following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to means for supporting double curtains at a window or other opening, such for instance as a lace or inside curtain and a silk curtain or over-drape, the object being to provide improved brackets whereby the rods for both of the curtains of the window may be supported, thus dispensing with the necessity of using separate brackets for each curtain.
With this object in view the invention consists in the improved construction, ary'angement and combination of parts of a bracket for this purpose, which will be hereinafter fully described and afterward specifically claimed.
I have illustrated an embodiment ot' my invention in the accompanying drawings, in
` which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pair of my improved brackets with two curtain rods supported thereon in position to support the inner and outer curtains, the central portion ot' the rods being broken out to shorten the figure; Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section through one of the Ibrackets and a portion of the window frame, parts being shown in elevation; and Figs. 3, 4L and 5 are perspective detail views of the parts of one of my improved brackets, detached.
The same reference characters mark the same parts in all oit the figures.
Referring specifically to the drawings 6, 7, in Fig. 1, represent a pair of my improved brackets which are identical in construction, each being composed of a supporting or base plate 8, with a stem 9 shouldered at 10 and provided with openings at 11 to receive securing screws and a thread 12 upon the outer end of the stem E), all as specifically shown in Fig. 3; a hollow sleeve 13 as shown in Fig. 4, and a cap nut 14 provided with a central threaded opening 15 to fit upon the thread 12 of the stem, shown in detail and detached in Fig. 5.
1G indicates the rod for the inner curtain such for instance as a lace curtain and 17 the rod for the outer curtain or over-drape.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led July 1, 1909.
Patented Mar. 1, 1910.
Serial No. 505,475.
The bracket may be secured to the wall as shown in section in Fig. 2, by means of securing screws, or nails, 18 through the openings 11 of the fastening plate or base 8, and into the wall 19, one bracket being secured at each side of the window or other opening to be curtaincd, the said rods being a proper distance apart to suit the length of' the curtain rods 16 and 17, which rods may he solid, of a single piece, or ot any other construction. In this position the stems 9 project at substantially a right angle from the wall and the rod 16 for the inner curtain, provided with suitable opening for the purpose, is passed over the stem E) until it abats against the shoulder 10. The sleeve 13 is now slipped upon the rod 9 until it abuts against. the rod 16, after which the rod 17 for the outer curtain is slipped upon the stem 9 and the cap 14 secured upon the end o't' the stem all as clearly shown in Fig. 2.
The curtains having been placed upon the rods before securing them in position as before described will now be supported in proper position before the window or opening, and may be manipulated on the rods in any suitable or well known manner. The distance ot the rods apart, and consequently the distance of the curtains apart, may be regulated by using sleeves 13 ot different lengths.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have produced a single bracket oi. very simple construction, capable of being manufactured at an almost negligible increase of cost over the brackets ordinarily used for this purpose, the separating sleeve being substantially the only new element required.
Having thus described my invention, what is claimed is:
1. The herein described combination bracket for supporting two rods for inner and outer curtains comprising a securingl plate, a supporting stem projecting at right angles from said plate and rigidly fixed thereto, said stem having a reduced portion forming a stop shoulder and being adapted to receive an inner curtain rod which abuts against said shoulder, and an outer curtain rod disposed near its outer end, a sleeve removably arranged on the reduced portion of the stem to fit between the two curtain rods and maintain them in spaced relation, the shouldered inner portion of said stem maintaining the inner curtain rod in spaced relation with respect to said securing plate, and
a cap removably secured on the outer extremity of said stem and adapted to retain the two curtain rods and the spacing sleeve thereon.
2. The herein described combination curtain bracket for supporting the rods of inner and outer curtains7 comprising` a securing plate having oifset apertured ends, a horizontally disposed supporting stem projecting at right angles from said plate and having its inner end riveted in the center of said plate, said stem having a reduced outer portion to provide a stop shoulder on the intermediate portion of said stem, and said reduced outer portion of the latter having an externally screw threaded extremity, said reduced portion of the stem being adapted to receive an inner curtain rod which abuts against said stop shoulder, and
an outer curtain rod which is supported adjacent the threaded extremity of the stem, a spacing sleeve removably arranged on the reduced portion of the stem and adapted to t between the two curtain rods to retain them in spaced relation, the inner curtain rod being spaced from said securing plate by reason of its engagement with said stop shoulder, and a cap nut removably arranged on the threaded extremity of said stem and adapted to retain the two curtain rods and the spacing sleeve thereon.
In testimony whereof I hereuntoV aiiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
