Be it known that l, FELIX Kooi-r, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Bellevue, in the county of Allegheny and. State of Pennsylvania, have invented cers tain new and useful improvements in Car V A lowers 10 and their attachments.
Braft-Rigging, of which the following is a specification.
Figure 1 is a plan view showing a portion of a car underframe provided with my improved draft rigging and bufting mechanism. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.

rThe present invention constitutes a division of my application filed .lune 13th, 1908, Serial No. 438,344, and entitled passenger cars.
An objectof the present invention is to provide an improved draft rigging and bu'lling mechanism.
A specific objectof the present invention is to provide an improved combined side stem bracket and follower lug plate for car draft rigging and buftlng mechanism.
Referring now in detail to the drawings: 1 represents the car center sills, and 2 are' combined follower' lug` and side stem bracket castings or plates. Plates 2 are provided. with suitable seats or pockets 3 for springs 4. Pockets 3 are perforated and form a bearing for side stems which carry the springs 4, and are connected at their forward ends to the coupler 6 in the customary manner. rlates 2 are shouldered to form an angular recess to receive center sills 1 and extend upwardly on the inner face of center sills 1, said extensions being riveted or otherwise secured to the center sills 1.
7 are angles extending longitudinally of the center sills and riveted to the oppositely projecting portions of plates 2 above the spring seats 3. The upward extensions of plates 2 are connected at their upper ends between the center sills by angle struts 8. On the inner faces of plates 2 are formed ribs 9, which constitute follower lugs for the follower plates 10. The ribs or lugs 9 are simply braced by horizontal connecting ribs.
The draft gear is of any suitable construction and comprises the customary springs 11 and 12, the drawbar yoke 13 and drawbar 14, as well as the aforementioned fol- 15 are carrier angles bolted to the under edges of the plates 2, removal of which will permit removal. of the draft gear.
An advantage of the present construction is that castings are so shaped that the side stem spring seats or sockets, when the castings are riveted or secured in place on the center sills, are located on the inner Side of the center sills l between the two sills. The arrangement is far simpler than struetures heretofore made and is more easily and quickly secured to the center sills as it comprises a smaller number of parts to be handled.
Having thus described my invention, the following is what l claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
l. In car draft rigging, a plate having an inner projection shaped to form a follower stop and an outer projection shaped to form a side stem bracket.
2. ln a car draft rigging, a plate having an inner projection shaped to form a follower stop and an outer projection shaped to form a side stem bracket, said projections being separated by an intermediate portion shaped to form a sill seat.
3. In a car draft rigging, a plate having an inner projection shaped to form a fol lower stop and an outerl projection on the same level as the inner projection and shaped to form a side stem bracket.
4. In car draft rigging, a plate having an inner projection shaped to form a follower stop, an outer projection on the same level as the inner projection and shaped to form a side stem bracket, and an upper projection shaped and located to form with said outer projection an angular sill seat.
