AGRICOLE F. CHASTANT, OF PASCAGOULA, ll/IISSISSIPPI.
MOSQUITO-BAR SUPPORT.
Maese.
Application filed February 2, 1909.
Specification of Letters Patent.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, AGRICOLE F. CHASTANT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pascagoula, in the county of Jackson and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mosquito- Bar Supports, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bed steads, and has special reference to an attachment to be applied to the same.
An object of this invention is to provide a bed stead with means whereby a mosquito netting may be positioned over the same.
A further object is to provide an attachment of this character by which the netting may be adjusted according to the requirements found necessary in the employment of the same.
The invention has for a further object the provision of a support for netting which is composed of few parts, which is of easy operation and adjustment and which may be economically manufactured.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description.
In the drawings forming a portion of this speciiication, and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure 1 is a fragmentary view of a bed stead having the improvement applied thereto, Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, Fig. 3 is a detail top view of the cable securing and carrying` member.
Referring to the drawings, 10 designates the head board of a bed stead which is provided upon its inner face with two straps 11 and 12. rlhe straps 11 and 12 are each provided with central apertures disposed vertically in alinement through which is passed a standard 13 adapted for vertical and rotary adjustment in the same. The lower strap 12 is provided with a thumb screw 14 which is adapted to engage through the strap 12 and against the side of the standard 13 in order to secure the same rigidly in adjusted position. r1`he standard 13 is provided with a laterally curved upper end portion 15 at the extremity of which is formed a hook 16. rlhe hook 16 is provided with a block 17 in which a pulley 18 is mounted over which is passed a cable 19 which is secured at its outer extremity to a netting 20. The Standard 13 is also provided at its upper extremity with a circumscribing sleeve 21 which is adjustably positioned thereon by means of a thumb screw 22. The sleeve 21 is provided with eye bolts 23 and 24 which extend oppositely from the sides thereof and through which is adapted to be engaged the inner extremity of the cable 19 for the purpose of holding the same in position, a sliding cleat being thus formed. If desired, the cable 19 may be extended through the inner eye bolt 23 and carried downwardly parallel to the standard 13 where it may be engaged about the lower extremity of the standard which extends below the strap 12 for the reception of the cable.
In operation, the thumb screw 14 is released and the standard 13 is swuno into the desired angle and raised to the djesired height, when the thumb screw 14 is tightened to hold the standard 13 in such position. The cable 19 is secured at its outer extremity in any convenient manner to a netting 20 when the inner end of the cable 19 is passed through the inner eye bolt 23 which is adjusted to the desired position by means of the thumb screw 22 and sleeve 21, when it is passed downwardly to the lower extremity of the standard 13 and secured in such position. By drawing the cable 19 taut, the netting 20 is raised in juxtaposition to the block 17 so that when the curved portion 15 of the standard 13 is curved backwardly from the head board 10 the netting will completely cover the bed stead and be held in such position by the cable 19.
As disclosed in the drawings, the employment of the sleeve 21 in connection with the eye bolts 23 and 24 is the preferred manner in which the cable is adapted to be secured. rlhe cable is drawn through the eye bolt 23 when it is carried about the sleeve 21 and engaged through the second eyebolt 24 after which it is passed alternately over the eyebolts.
The cleat member is made slidable in order that it may be utilized to secure the cable 19 in such a way as to remove it from interference with any spreading means which may be engaged beneath the netting. Thus as shown in the drawings, the slide is disposed at the upper limit of its movement, so that the cable 19 is directed outwardly out of interference with the netting 20. When the netting is lowered, however,
the slide is moved downwardly, so as t-o be within easier reach of a person in bed therebeneath, as will be understood.
flint is claimed is In a device of the Character described, the combination with a bed stead, of two straps positioned in vertical alinement upon the head board of said bed stead, a standard having a Curved portion formed at the upper end thereof, a hook on said curved portion, a block pendent from said hook, a cable carried through said block, a netting carried by the cable, e sleeve slidably disposed about said standard, eye bolts oppositely extended from said sleeve to form zt cleat for securing said cable, and a set screw engaged through the sleeve and against the standard to hold it at various heights to hold the cable out of Contact with the netting.
In 'testimony whereof I aHiX my signature, in presence of two Witnesses.
