BELT ATTACHMENT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN EUGENE NYE, a citizen of the United States, and a residentof Groton, in the county of Tompkins and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Belt Attachment, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to belts worn by men, and its object is to provide a new and improved belt attachment for holding the buckle end of the belt from slipping on the trousers.
For the purpose mentioned, use is made of a hook adapted to engage the fastening device employed for connecting the front flaps of the trousers with each other, the shank of the hook terminating in a pin adapted to be fastened to the belt.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a rear side elevation of the buckle end of a belt provided with the attachment; Fig. 2 is a cross section of the same as applied, the section being on the line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a face view of the same; Fig. t is a plan view of the same; and Fig. 5 is a perspective View of the at tachment.
The attachment is preferably made from a single piece of wire bent to form a hook A, having a straight shank B, provided at its end with a transversely-extending offset C, terminating in a pin D, having a pointed end E, and standing approximately at right angles to the shank B, as plainly indicated in the drawings. The attachment can be readily applied or placed in position on the belt F, adjacent to the buckle G, by passing the point E of the pin D through the belt material and then turning the pin D upward, the offset 0 permitting such movement, after which the point E is bent over the top edge of the belt F and clenched to the belt, so as to securely hold the attachment in place on the belt. It is understood that the shank B is arranged longitudinally on the inner face of the belt near the lower edge thereof, as plainly shown in Fig. 1, so that the hook A is opposite the heel end Specification of Letters Patent.

of the tongue G of the buckle, and when the belt is in position on the trousers the hook A can be readily slipped into engagement with the member H of the fastening device employed for connecting the flaps I and I of the trousers with each other, as shown in Figs. 2 3 and 1.
It is understood that the fastening member H is in the shape of a hook attached to the inside of the flap 1, to engage an eye H fastened on the outer face of the other flap 1, as indicated in Fig. 4:. Now when the hook A engages the fastening member H it is evident that the belt is held against slip ping on the trousers, that is, the buckle end of the belt is held especially against upward movement, but lengthwise movement of the belt is also prevented, so that the buckle is practically at all times in the same position.
The attachment is very simple in construction, and can be readily applied to any belt by the user thereof.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A belt attachment, comprising a hook for engagement with the fastening device employed for connecting the front flaps ofa pair of trousers with each other, the shank of the hook terminating in an angular pin adapted to engage the belt adjacent to the belt buckle to secure the attachment in place on the belt.
2. A belt attachment, comprising a hook for engagement with the fastening device employed for connecting the front flaps of a pair of trousers with each other, the hook having a straight shank provided at its end with a transversely-extending offset, terminating in a pin standing approximately at a right angle to the said shank, the said pin being adapted to pass transversely through the belt material, the offset permitting the pin to be turned up against the face of the belt and the point of the pin being clenched over the edge of the belt.
