To these ends my invention comprises, generally stated, a cabinet of this character in whichthe inner walls are provided with the guides for theextension-slide, together 'With stops for the prevention of the withdrawal of the slide, and means for collapsing orcontracting the extension'slide in such a manner-that it may be withdrawn from its guides without removing any of the parts.

l a suitable cabinet or case which, in the present instance, is illustrated as formed of metal. These cases may be used singly or in sets, as desired. The top, bottom and sides of the case are made of twothickne sses of metal with a space between the same which gives a strong, durable, fire-resisting construction. The guides 3 form the guides and supports for the extensionslide 4; and these guides may be formed integral' with the bottom plate 5, as clearly indicated in Fig. 3 by bending up flanges to form said guides. This bottom plate does not extend to the extreme rear end' of the case, as it is not necessary to support the drawer at the extreme rear end. The bot tom plate is slightly raised above the sill or edge 2* of the case to relieve said sill of wear in the insertion and withdrawal of the drawer. The flanges forming the guides 3 are connected to the inner walls of the case by rivets 6. The inwardly projecting flanges 7 of the guides 3 have their inner ends turned up as at S to form. a stop for the extension-slide.

The extension-slide 4 is made up of the side-bars 9 connected at their outer ends by the flexible plate 10. The side-bars 9 of-the extension slide are connected at their rear ends by the bars or bands 11 and 12 which are pivotally connected, as at 13, and each bar is rovided with a lug 14 adapted to engage ttie upper edge of the other bar. I The inner ends of the bars 11 andl2 are provided with the flanges 15 through which pass the rivets 16 connecting the bars "11 and 12 to the side-bars 9. Interposed between the flanges 15 and the side-bars 9 are the buffers 17 which are adapted to engage the stops 8 onthe guides 3. These buffers act in a triple capacity. Their rear faces project beyond the side and end bars of the extension-slide and abut against the inner end wall of the case 2 to reduce thenoise when said slide is pushed in to its innercu-shion when-brought into contact *with the stops 8, andthirdly, said front faces act as a cushion for the drawerwhen it is pushed in to its innermost position with'its lugs 23 in contact with said bufler s; The extension-slide is provided with the runners'9 which move in contact with the bottom i5 to reduce the friction.

- The side-bars 9 are provided with thein- :most' position: Their front faces act as a wardly projecting flanges 18 extending for a portion of the length of the side-bars, said flanges forming the guides for the drawer 19. At the outer ends of the sidebars 9 are the buffers 20 formed of rubber or other suitable material and said buffers are secured in place by means of the clips 21, said clips forming part of the side-bars 9 and being bent over in such manner'as to securely engage and hold in place the buffers 20. The outer ends of the side-bars are inclined, as at 22, so that when the clips are bent over in position to engage the buffers a tapering seat is formed and accordingly the buffers themselves are made wedge-shaped so as to lit in said tapering seats and the action of the drawer in striking against said buffers only acts to insure their being more tightly wedged in position.

The drawer 19 is provided at its inner end with the lugs 23 which move in the guides formed by the flanges 18. The lugs 23 engaging the flanges 18 in this way act to retain the drawer in the extension-slide and prevent its tilting when withdrawn. The flanges 18 extend far enough to engage the lugs-23 when the drawer has been withdrawn to. the full extent and the buffers 24 are in contact with the buflers- 20. This construction makes it a very easy and Simple matter to remove the drawer from the extension-slide or insert it'therein, as it is only necessary to lift the front end of the drawer to free the buffers 24 from the buifers'20 when the drawer is free to be removed. On the sides of said drawersapproximately midway of their length are the buffers 24. These buifers 24 are formed of rubber or other a suitable material and fit within the keepers or sockets 25 which are bent up from a piece of metal riveted to the bottom of the drawer, as at 26. An opening is formed in the side of the drawer and the metal extends through said opening and is then bent up to form the keeper to hold'the bufler securely therein. This keeper is slightly rounded or tapered at its inner end so as to more securely hold the buffer in position and prevent its being dislodged therefrom by contact with the outer buffers -21 when the drawer is drawn out to its full extent. An opening 25 is left at the small end of the keeper 25 so that access is given to the rubber contained therein to force said rubber from the keeper when said rubber is worn to such an extent as to render it inefficient and a new one is to be inserted. The drawer may be provided with the ordinary follower (not,

illustrated) for the purpose of securing the cards or envelops in position within the drawer.

If it is desired to remove the extensionslide 4 from the case or insert it therein, it is only necessary to apply suflicient downward pressure to the side bars 9 of said slide in order to compress or collapse the frame sufficiently to permit of the insertion of the slide within the case so as to engage the guide-ways 3, as indicated in dotted lines, Fig. 5. The extension slide is collapsed in the same manner when it is desired to remove it from the case and in this action of collapsing or compressing the extensionslide the outer cross bar 10 will be slightly bent in the operation, but being formed of flexible metal it will readily yield and can be again easily straightened when the adjustment of the slide has been made.

By my invention I provide a construction in which the number of parts are greatly reduced and the construction simplified, while at the same time the parts when combined form a very neat and strong construction.

What I claim is:

1. The combination of a suitable case, a transversely compressible extension-slide mounted therein, and a drawer carried by said compressible extension slide.

2. The combination of a suitable case, an extension-slide mounted therein comprising side-bars and end-bars, the rear end-bar being in two parts movable the one with relation to the other, and a drawer mounted on said extension-slide.

3 The combination of a suitable case, an extension-slide mounted therein comprising side-bars and end-bars, the rear end-bar being in two parts pivotally connected, and a drawer mounted on said extension-slide.

4:. The combination of a suitable case, an extension-slide mounted therein comprising side-bars and end-bars, the rear end-bar being in two parts connected by a pivotal connection, a projection on each part engaging the upper edge of the other part, and a drawer mounted on said extension-slide.

5. The combination of. a suitable case, an extension-slide mounted therein comprising side-bars and end-bars, the front end-bar being flexible, the rear end-bar being in two parts movably connected, and a drawer mounted in said extension-slide.

6. The combination of a suitable case having guideways therein, an extension-slide mounted in said guideways, a rear cross-bar on said extension-slide,and bufiers interposed between the side-bars of said extension-slide and the ends of said crossbar.

7. The combination of a suitable case having guideways therein, an extension-slide mounted in said guideways, a rear cross-bar connecting the side-bars of said slide, said rear cross-bar having flanges at the ends thereof, and buffer-blocks interposed between said flanges and said side-bars.

8. The combination of suitable case having guideways therein; an extension-slide mounted in said guideways, a rear cross-bar connecting the side-bars of said slide, said rear cross-bar having flanges formed at -the ends thereof, and bufier-blocks interposed between said flanges and said side-bars, the

devices connecting saidend bar and side-bars passing through said buller-blocks.

9. The combination of a suitable case having guideways therein, an extension-slide mounted in said guide-ways, lugs at the outer ends of the slde members of said extension-slide bent over to form seats, bufierblocks in said seats, and a drawer mounted in said slide' adapted to engage said bufierblocks.

10. The combination of' a suitable case having guideways therein, an extension-slide mounted in'said guideways, the outer ends of the side members of said extension-slide being inclined, lugs formed thereon bent over to form wedge-shaped seats, bufi'erblocks engaging said seats, and a drawer mounted in said slide adapted to engage said bufl er blocks. a

11. The combination of a suitable case, a drawer, a stop for said drawer, a metal clip projecting beyond the side of said drawer, and bent up to form a socket and a butter block in said socket adapted to engage said stop. 12. The combination of a suitable case, a drawer, a stop for said drawer, said drawer having an opening formed in the side thereof, a meta1 clip secured inside of said drawer and pro ect1ng through said openmg,
