JOHN D. RIPSON, OF ROCHESTER, AND ERICK G. SAMPSON, OF JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNORS TO ART METAL CONSTRUCTION COMPANY, OF JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK, A
CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
SUPPORT FOR DRAWERS OF CABINETS, &c.
To all whomit may concern.'
Be it known that we, JOHN D. RiPsoN, a resident of Rochester, in the count f of Monroe and State of New York, and RICK G.
SAMPsoN, a resident of Jamestown, in the county of Chautauqua', State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Supports for Drawers for Cabinets, Snc. and we do hereby declare the following to be aV full, clear, and exact description thereof.
Our invention relates to supports for drawers of cabinets, liling cases, etc., its object being to provide a simple and efficient form of device by.means of which the drawer is held in a horizontal position when withdrawn fromthe' cabinet and so limited in its movement as to prevent its accidentally dropping when drawn out to its full length.
A further object of our invention is to provide'a device of this character in -which the parts are so arranged that the drawer may be reed from the -support and lifted therefrom without the removal of any of the parts, while at the same time the parts are readily accessible for removal in cases of repair.'
Our invention comprises the novel features hereinafter set forth and claimed.
v In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a vertical section of the upper part of a cabinet with a drawer in elevation partly drawn from the cabinet, dotted lines showing the drawer pulled out full lengthand in position to be detached from the cabinet; Fig. 2 is a section on -the line 2 2 Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is an interior view of one of the sides showing the drawer withdrawn; Figs. 4, 5 and 6 are inlarged sections on the lines 4 4, 5 5 and 6 6, respectively, Fig. 3.
In the drawing the numeral -2 designates a portion of a cabinet or filing casevprovided with drawers 3. Secured to the inner side walls 4 of the cabinet are the Z-bars 6 andV Specification of Letters Patent.

upset as at 17 and secured within the channel at the end thereof is the cushion block 18 formed of leather or other suitable mate- Theplate l() is also provided with the buffer 19.
Plates 2() are secured to the forward endof the .sides of the case or cabinet, said plates having the stops 21 adjacent to the ends of the Z-bars 7 and in the path of the buffer 1) on the plate 10. 1n this manner the withdrawal of the channels is prevented until the plates 20 are removed. (xuide plates 22 are secured to the plates 20 and secured to said guide lates by means of the spindles 24 are the id e rollers 25 upon which the channels are ada ted to travel. The outer ends of the channe s' are upset as at 26 and secured within the channels are the buffers 27. The outer ends of the channel bars have their flanges cut away as at 28 to permit of the removal of the drawer, as fully hereinafter set The drawer. has secured to its sides the strips 30 and rollers 31 are secured to said strips by means of the spindles 32. -These rollers are adapted to engage the 'channels of the channel bars and are adapted ,to travel back and forth therein.
When the drawer is in its closed position in the cabinet the ends of the plates 10 bear against the buffers 15 and the rollers 31 bear against the buHers 18 at the inner ends of the channel bars. When it is desired to withvvdraw the drawer the operator` grasps the handle 35 at the front of the drawer and pulls on the drawer. The drawer moves out, the rollers 3 traveling in the channels until said rollers strike the front buffers on saidl channel bars, whereupon the channel bars are withdrawn, the wheels at the inner ends thereof traveling in the guide formed by the upper 'and .lower Z-bars 6 and 7. The drawer may be withdrawn in this manner until the buffers 19 strike the stops on the plates 20, whereupon the further outward movement of the drawer is-arrested. The draweris then -supported by the extended channel bars and is held in a rigid horizontal position. In Case it is desired to remove the drawer when in this position it is only necessary to'bring the front pair of rollers 31 in line with the cut-away ortions 28 of the channel bars, whereupon y lifting up on the drawer the said rollers are released from the' ner we provide not only for a drawer support any other reason, it is only necessary to reyand said ch'annel bars.
the combination of a cabinet, filing case or channel bars and the entire drawer is freed and may be readily removed. In this manin which the drawer is held against accidental displacement .when withdrawn but at the same time one in which the drawer may be entirely removed when desired without the necessity of. removin any ofthe parts of the suspension device. n case it is desired to remove the channel bars for the purpose of i said guides, stops in the path of said channel renewing the wheels mounted thereon or for move the plates 20 whereupon the channel bars may be readily removed without. difficulty.
What We claim is:
1. In a device of the character described, the combination of a cabinet, filing case or the like, guides on the walls of same, a drawer, slidable channel bars moving in said guides, wheels carried by said channel bars moving in said guides, plates removably se. cured to the walls of said cabinetnear the outer portion thereof, -said plates having stops in the path of said channel bars, and slidable connections between said drawer 2. In a device of. the character described, the combination of a cabinet, filing case or the like, guides on the inner walls of same, a drawer, slidable channel bars moving in said guides, and stops in the path of said channel ars, projections on the outer walls of said drawer slidably engaging said channel bars, stops at the outer ends of said channel bars, said channel bars having cut-away portions in their llanges to admit of the passage of said projections therethrough to remove the drawer.
3. In a device of the character described,
the like, guides on the inner walls of same, a drawer, slidable channel bars movable in said uides, stops in the path of said channel bars, wheels carried bysaid drawer engaging said channel bars, and stops on'said channel bars in the ath ofsaid Wheels.
4. In a c evice of the character described,
the combination cfa cabinet, ling case Or y the llke, guides on the inner walls of same, a l
drawer, slidable channel bars movable in said guides, stops in the path of said channel bars, strips on the outer walls of said drawer, wheels carried by said stripsengagin said channel bars, and stops on said channe bars in the path of said wheels.
5. In a device of the character described, the combination of a cabinet, iiling case or the like, guides on the inner walls of same, a drawer,` slidable channel bars moving in bars, wheels carried on the outer walls of said drawer, said channel bars having their flanges cutaway to release said Wheels therefrom, and stops inthe path of said wheels.
6. In a device of the character described, the combination of a, cabinet, filing case or the like, Z'ebars secured to the, inner walls of same forming guiding grooves, the upper Z-bar extending beyond the lower, slidable `supports moving in 'said grooves, plates secured to the walls of said cabinet having stops in front 'of said lower Z-bar in the path of said supports, and slidable connections between said drawer and said supports.
7. In a device of the character described, the combination of a cabinet, filing case or the like, Z-bars secured to the inner walls of same forming guiding grooves, the upper Z-bar extending beyond the lower, slidable supports moving in said grooves, plates selcured to the walls of' said cabinet having stops in front of said lower Z-bar in the path of'said supports, brackets carried by said plate, idle rollers in. said brackets, and slidable connections between said drawer and said supports.
In testimony whereof, we the said JOHN D. RirsoN and ERICK G. SAMPSON have hereunto set our hands.
