ROBERT n. sHEL'roN, or CELESTE, rms.
oor-FRAME. 'l Y *..To dll whom 'it may concern: 5'- .Y i f Be it known that I, ROBERT SrrEL'roN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Celeste, in the county of Hunt and State 'of Texas, have inventeda newand useful Cot- Frame, lof which the 'following is/a speci-- fication. l The objects of the invention' are, generally, the provision in a merchantable form,
means being provided for dividing the cotI intotwo separate sleeping compartments, the cot being so constructed that it may readily be folded into compact form for storage; other and further-objects being InadV manifest Vhereinafter as the description of the invention progresses.
The invention consists in the novel con-Y struction and arrangement of parts hereinafter'described, delineated in the accompanying draivings, and particularly pointed -outl in that portion of this instrument wherein patentable novelty1 is claimedfor certain distinctive and peculiar features of the device, it being understood, that, within the scope of what hereinafter thus is claimed, divers changes in the f0rm,proportions, size, andminor details of the structure may be made, without departing from the spirit or sacricing any of the advantages of the in- Y vention.
Like numerals of reference are employed.
Y adapted to alike end, constituting the connecting elements between the beams 2 and the posts 3. i The inner faces of the posts 3 slightly below the beams 2 are notched to form shoulders 5, the upper faces of which are inclined downwardly, the upper surfaces of the notchesbeing rounded as denoted by the numeral 20. f
Located at either end of the structure and Specification of Letters Patent,
constituting a connection between the sides, are c ross pleces. These cross pieces comprismg sections 6, are united with the posts 3 by in eans of links 7 the outer ends of which ,are pivoted to 'the posts 3 slightly above the notches therein, theinncr ends of the links 7 being pivotally connected with the interme Patented Jan. 18,1910. appuyait@ nea septefnber 14,1909. serial 110,517,666.- i' c diate portions lof the sections 6. The remote lendsof-the sections 6 are adapted to rest upon the lbeveled upper faces of the shoulders 5, the said remote ends beingbeveled as denoted by the numeral 8, to' engage the i corner posts 3. The adjacentrends of the sections are. disposed abovethe plane of their remote ends, and beveled as denoted by the numeral 9 to engage each other. IT-he adjacent ends of the sections 6 are unitedby .hinges 10. These hinges 10 comprise arms 11 which :Ee secured to the lower faces of the sections 6 in any suitable manner, the adjacent ends. of the arms being' pivotally united with thedepen'ding U shaped central portion 12. This centra-l vportion 12 is adapt ed to serve as a support for the pole 14, connecting the cross pieces at one end of the device with those at the other end.l A connecting element, in the present instanceV the Vhinge into engagement with the end of the pole 14. Eye bolts 19 are mounted in the posts 3, a flexible member 17, preferably a light chain, connecting tle eye bolts. .The intermediate portion ofthe flexible member 17 is connected 'with the eye bolt 16 by a rigid member 16. A piece of canvas 18, or the like is mounted upon the beams 2, its intermediate portion beix o' supported upon the pole 14, which, when t e device is ready for use, is disposed in'substantially the same plane as the beams 2. By means of this centrally disposed pole 14, the canvas is made to sag slightly between the pole and the beams 2 to form two sepa-rate sleeping compartments.
Vhencthe device is in condition for use, the upwardly extending section 6 Aof the cross pieces, taken with the flexible member 17 and the rigid element 16- form attruss of simple but 'efficient construction, whereby the rigidity of the structure is promoted. By raisingV the pole Mathe remote ends of the sections 6 of the cross pieces may be lifted from the shoulders 5 whereon they are supported, and permittedl to drop, through the peculiar connection afforded by the links 7,v
into parallelism with the corner posts 3, the hinges' 10 permitting the sides to. be brought into Vclose relation with each other, the device, in the pi'esent'iiistance, presenting the compact 'forni shown in Fig. 3.
A Hooks 22 .terininately pivoted to the posts 3 and engaging eyes 23 on the cross pieces 6 may be employed to stiften the structure when in use, and to revent the pillows from falling ffrom the en -of the cot.
Having thus described iny invention, what is claimed is:-
1. A cot comprising corner posts having shoulders u on their adjacent faces; a 'cross piece including sectionspivotally connected Y at their adjacent ends and having their remote ends removably supported uponrtlie shoulders; and links -pivotally connecting the sides with the 'adjacent sections of the Y. cross piece.
2. A cot comprising sides; a cross piece includinor sections having their remote ends removably receivable by thesides; a hinge uniting the adjacent ends of the sections; links pivotally connecting the sides with the adjacent sections of the cross piece; alexible element uniting the sides below the cross includin Biece; and arig le element with the hinge. .Y
3. A cot comprising sides; .a cross piece Vtheir adjacent ends and having their remote ends removably receivable by the sides;
links pivotally-conn'ecting the sides with theV 'tioiis of the cross/piece; flexible elements uniting the sides below the cross pieces; rigid members uniting the flexible elements with 'the hinges; and a pole terminally supported in the hinges.
In testimony that I claiin the foregoing as my own, I haverhereto aiiixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
