SHOW-CASE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN M. lVADDELL, a citizen of the United Statesof America, and resident of Greenfield, county of Highland, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Show Cases, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is a show case the front of which the vender may open easily, so that the customer himself may take the article purchased readily from the case. This object is attained by the means described in the specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which,

Referring to the parts: each end of the case consists of a frame, the front half, A, of which is in the shape of a quadrant of a circle, and the rear half, A, of which is a rectangle of a. width equal to or greater than radius of said circle. The top, B, of the case is supported by the rectangular part of the ends.

Between the bottom, O, of the case and the rear edge of the top, B, sliding doors, D, D, are mounted.

The opening in the front of the case between the top, B, and bottom, C, may be closed by a rotary lid, E. Lid, E, consists of end pieces 6 c of the shape of a quarter of a. circle, between which curved glass, 6 is mounted.

A radial arm, G, of the size of the radius of the curved lid, E, is pivoted to each end of the case, at, g, the center of rotation of the lid, and is secured at its opposite forked end, 9, to the ends, 6, and, 6, respectively of the lid. One of the arms, G, has pivoted to it at, 9 an actuating lever, H, which extends to the rear of the case and terminates in a handle, h. The door, D, has a notch adjacent to lever, H. Said door has a coiled spring, d, to close it. Spring, d, has a hook engaging Specification of Letters Patent.

The operation of the device is as follows: lVhen a customer desires to purchase a cigar, the clerk, with one hand, moves the lever, M, to unlock the lid, E, and by a pressure downward upon the lever, H, causes the arms, G, to be rotated rearwardly, thereby opening the lid, E. The customer then has free access to the cigars and may pick the one he desires from the box, without the clerks removing a box from its arrangement in the case. The movement of the lid, E, in no wise affects the top, B, of the case, fro-m which, therefore, any articles which might be lying thereon need not be removed; another advantage of my revolving lid is that the merchant may arrange his wares from the front of the case so as to make the display he desires.

Vhat I claim is:

1. The combination of a case having an open front, a rotatory lid adapted to close the front, a radial arm at each end of the case, the radial arms being pivoted at one end to the case and being secured at the other end to the lid, a fulcrum arm pivoted to one end of the case and an actuating lever pivoted to the fulcrum arm and to one of the radial arms and projecting to the rear of the case.

2. In a show case the combination of a rotatory lid for the front of the case, a lever pivoted within the case so as to move in a vertical plane adjacent to the end of the case and connected at one end to the lid and projecting at the other end to the rear of the case to regulate the movement of the lid, a reciprocating door for the rear of the case having a notch at one end which forms with the end of the case an opening through which the lever projects, and a means for locking the reciprocating door in its closed position, whereby when the door is closed the lever is locked from movement.
