IMPROVEMENT IN ALARMS FOR LETTER-BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 121,218, dated November 21, 1871.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED TAYLOR, of
Brooklyn, State of New York, have invented certain Improvement in Letter-Boxes, which I name Bell Letter-Boxes.77
The nature of my invention consists in operating the bell in an alarm letter-box by a lever fixed upon the hinged door, With its free end acting against a'hooked bar connected With the bell-hammer, all as hereinafter more fully described.
Figure I is a cut section of the letter-box embodying my invention. Fig. II is a plan view, with the back of the box removed.
A is the entrance, cover, or door to the front side of the letter-box B. The lever C, being attached to the inside of the door A, will, by the pushing of said door or cover into the box, pull the rod S connected by the elbow-lever D, to which is attached the bell-hammer E. F 1s a bell, G being the stand or bearer thereof. H is a spring, one end of Which is attached to the stand G and the other end to the elbow-lever D. I is a spring for the purpose of holding the catch J of the rod S up to the end of the lever.
What I claim is- The combination, with the hinged door A of a letter-depostory, of the hooked lever C fixed rnlly thereto, catch J, spring I, rod S, elbowlever D, bell F, hammer E, and spring H, all constructed substantially as set forth.
