COMBINED CHECK-PAD AND PENCIL-HOLDER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES T. Ras- CHICK, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey, State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Combined Check-Pad and Pencil-Holder, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in a combined check pad and pencil holder, and has for its primary object a device of its kind which can be easily and quickly attached to, or detached from the pad of checks, and which is adapted to form a spring holder for a pencil.

This invention is inexpensive in construction and efiicient in operation.

In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification Figure l is a front view of a pad of checks showing my improved holder attached thereto, and Fig. 2 is a side view of the construction illustrated in Fig. 1.

My invention comprises a single piece of wire which is looped substantially midway between its ends to form a coupling eye A. The ends of the wire leading from the eye extend downwardly and are doubled up to form a pair of spring clips B, which are spaced a short distance apart, and adapted to form a convenient holder for the pencil 2. The arms C and D extend laterally from the clips and are formed with a pair of hooks at and 5 which are adapted to be sprung between the leaves, below the binding clips 3, of the pad of checks E. The outer ends of the hooks 4 and 5 are bent into blunt ends 6 to prevent tearing the leaves of the ad. p The wire out of which the device is constructed is preferably made out of spring material so that the arms C and D can be sprung apart to disengage the pad from the holder Specification of Letters Patent.

and so that the pencil can be pressed into tight engagement with the clips B. The loop A serves to fasten the holder to a carrying chain and for attaching the holder upon a belt clip or other support. This construction above described produces an inte gral pad and pencil holder, and is strong and durable, as well as inexpensive in con struction and efiective in use.

In accordance with patent statutes I have described the principle of operation of my invention together with the construction, which I now consider to represent the best embodiment thereof, but I desire to have it understood that the construction shown is only illustrative and that the invention can be carried out by other means and applied to uses other than those above set forth, within the scope of the following claims.

Having described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to protect by Let-' ters Patent, is:

1. A device for holding a pad and pencil, comprising, a pair of integral and lateral spring arms provided with a supporting loop between them, and with a pair of clips between said arms into which a pencil is adapted to be pressed into engagement for the purposes specified.

2. A combined pad and pencil holder, comprising, a single piece of wire looped between its ends and having a clip for supporting a pencil and a pair of oppositely disposed lateral spring arms extending from said clip for the purposes specified.
