Be it known that I, ROBERT WEANER GL'Ass, a citizen of the United States, residjing at Pueblo, in the county of vPueblo and State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Clothes-Clamps, of

vide a supporting member having meansv for clamping it on'the side rails, said supporting member having an opening through which extends a shank of a pair of jaws which are provided with means for clamping the bed covering between the same.

A further object of the invention is to provide means for holding the jaws under tension whereby the bed covering will be held tightly at all times so that all danger of the covering being kicked off by a restless person is prevented.

A still further object of the invention is to rovide a clothes clamp which is exceed! ing y simple and cheap in construction and .one which can be leasily and quickly attached to the bed or detached therefrom'.

IVith these various objects in view, my invention consists in the novel features Vof construction, arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the claims, and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which.:-

In carrying out my improved invention, I employ a supporting member A provided with a slot in which the horizontal flange of the bed rail is adapted to fit and be secured by a set screw B working in a bore formed in lthe member A and it will be seen by this arrangement that the supporting member can be moved along the side ra"z of the bed so as to place theclamp in the slesired position as will be hereinafter fully described. The `supporting member A is provided with an. outwardly extending arm portion A of such a length that it extends outbeyond the side rail of the bedl and is provided with an opening.' l Slidably mounted within the arm portion A of the support A is a shank C provided-with a head D having a xedjaw -E and a pivoted rjaw F which are normally held apart by a coil spring G surrounding a bolt H extending transversely through the jaws on one end of which is mounted a thumb nut I working against-a washer I adapted to force the pivoted jaw against the rigid jaw after the bed covering has been inserted between the same so ras to securely clamp Athe covering. It will Abe seen by this arrangement that itis only necessary to operate the thumb nut in order to open or close the jaws. The

*shank C is surrounded by a coil springJ under the supporting arm Af, the lower end of which bears against a nut C working on the threaded lower end of the shank C whereby the tension of the spring can be adjusted by screwing up or unscrewing the nut. .It will be seen' by this arrangement that the spring has the tendency to pull the jaws downwardly when the clothes clamp is in position so as to hold the covering under tension whereby all danger of the covering getting thrown to one side is prevented and at the same time the covering willmbe held in such a manner that it will yield in the opening of i order to allow the personwithin the bed to move freely.

From 'the foregoing description, it-will be seen that I have provided a clothes clamp which will hold the bed covering in such a manner that it will be impossible for the same to get out of the correct position after once heilig clamped by the jaws.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A clothes clamp comprising a support provided with means for securing it on the rail of a bed, a spring actuated shank slidably mountedwithin said -support,`a head carried by the shank provided with a fixed jaw `and a-pivoted jaw, a spring for forcing the jaws apart and means for clamping said jaws over the bed covering.
