To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, NELIUS E. LINDAHL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Esmond, in the county of Benson, State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Guns; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to toys and more especially to a toy gun adapted to shoot a button attached to the end of an elastic band.

One object of the invention is to improve the construction of guns of this character so that the button may be guided better in the proper direction and at the same'time the gun he provided with a sight which has the double function of a guide and sight.

IVith the above and other objects in view, as Will be hereinafter apparent, the inven tion consists in general of a toy gun provided with a grooved barrel having a combined guide and sight on the front end thereof.

The invention further consists in certain novel details of arrangement and combinations of aarts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and specifically set forth in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and:-Figure 1 is a sideelevation of a gun constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse section through the forward end of a gun barrel. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the gun.

The body of the gun or stock is indicated by the numeral 10 and upon the forward portion of this stock is formed a barrel 11 provided with a substantially arcuate groove 12 which extends from the muzzle of the gun to a. point corresponding to the breech where the groove is narrowed to form a slot 13 behind which there is a recess 14 adapted to receive the head of a button such as a shoe button and which is indicated as at 15.

Extending through the stock 10 from the recess 14- to the bottom or under side of the stock and slanting in a forward direction is an opening 18 having a plunger 17 mounted therein to constitute the trigger of the gun.

Upon the muzzle of the gun is mounted a ring 18 which projects above the groove 12 and acts as a combined sight and guide for the button 15.

Extending forwardly from the muzzle of the gun is a pin 19. Attached to the button 15 is an elastic band 20 preferably made of an ordinary rubber band.

In using the gun the elastic band 20 is inserted through the ring 18 and hooked over the pin 19. The button is then pulled back and hooked over the shoulder portion formed by the front end of the recess 14. This brings the button immediately over the plunger 17. When it is desired to fire the gun, the plunger 17 is raised with the forefinger of the hand which grasps the small of the stock and the button displaced from the position just described. The elastic band now causes the button to travel forward and pass out through the guide 18. 1f the button fails to shoot in the proper direction and catches around the rim of the guide it is pre vented from flying off and injuring a bystander by the end of the elastic still retaining its engagement with the pin 19 while if the button is guided properly the elastic releases from pin 19 and the button may be discharged toward the target. Furthermore the ring 18 serves as a front globe sight for the purpose of aiming the gun.

There has thus been provided a simple and efficient device of the character described and for the purpose specified.

It is obvious that minor changes may be made in the form and construction of this invention Without departing from the material principles thereof. It is not therefore desired to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown and described, but it is wished to include all such as roperly come Within the scope of the appen ed claims.
