To all wiwm it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Jews R. THOMAs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lexington, in the county of Henderson and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sling- Shot Guns, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to missile projectors and particularly to a gun in the nature of a sling-shot.
The general object of my invention is to provide a very simple missile projector having the general form of a gun that is provided with a stock, a trigger and a forwardly projecting extension from the stock which has the similitude of or is analogous to a barrel, in which the projectile is projected by a projectile carrier urged to its forward position by contractile rubber bands or like means.
Another object of the invention is to provide a very simple construction of this character which may be readily made-out of heavy wire and which is, therefore, very cheaply constructed and may be put upon the market at a small cost.
A further object is to improve upon the details of construction of devices of this character.
Other objects will appear in the course of the following description.
My invention as illustrated in the accompanying drawing,.in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a toy gun constructed in accordance with my invention;

Referring to these figures, it will be seen that my improved gun, as it may be termed, comprises a stock or shoulder piece designated generally 10 and which may be formed in any desired manner but is illustrated as formed of a wire 11 bent to take the outline of the usual stock. nected to a body 12 which corresponds to the ordinary breech portion of the gun. This body 12 is preferably formed of a casting having sockets for the reception of the ends of the wire 11, the wire being held in these sockets by means of the screws 13. Sockets are also provided for forwardly extending tubular members 1% which are screw-threaded into the body. The body upon one face is cut away as at 16 to form a housing for a trigger 17, this recess 16 being formed with a contracted neck 18 opening at the forward end of the body. Pivoted within this recess 16, as by means of the screw 19 is the trigger 17 which has a downwardly extending finger portion 20 which extends down below the body and this trigger is also provided withthe forwardly extending detent 21 having a hooked end, this portion 21 being disposed within the neck 18. Below the lower end of the trigger is the trigger guard 22, attached to the body 12 in any suitable manner. The body is closed by a plate 15.
Rigidly connected to the outer ends of the tubular members 14: are sleeves 23, held in place by set screws 2%, and integrally or otherwise connected to these sleeves is a cross bar 25 having rearwardly projecting brackets 26 between which brackets is mounted a spindle 27 This pin or spindle 2! is detachable from the brackets. Slidably mounted upon the tubular members 14:, which constitute guides, are the sleeves 28 and 29 which are carried by a cross piece 30, the forward edge'of whichis formed with brackets 31, connected by a removable pin 32 or spindle. The rear edge of the cross bar 30 is formed with a rearwardly projecting hook-shaped detent 33 adapted to engage with the forwardly extending bill of the detent 21 when thecross bar is retracted to its full extent. The bar 30 is extended beyond the sleeve 29 and is forwardly bent as at 3d and is provided with a small seat 35 for the reception of the shot or other projectile. means of a very light spring 36 in this recess. In practical use a projectile is placed within the seat 35 and the cross bar 30 re tracted against the force of the rubber band 38 untilthe trigger detent isengaged with the detent Then when it is desired to fire the gun, the trigger 2 0 is pulled releasing the detents, the rubber band urges the cross bar 30 forward and the force is such as to project the projectile from its seat, the relatively weal: spring 36 shifting under the momentum of the projectile so as to permit the projectile to pass.
lVhile I have illustrated certain details of construction, I wish it understood that I may vary these details in many without departing from the spirit of the invention. The construction illustrated, however, permits the gun to be very cheaply manufactured and permits the parts to be readily assembled. It also permits the rub her band 38 who renewed from time to time. Whilel have illustrated one rubber band 38, it will be understood that a plurality of small rubber bands might be used instead. The compression springs 39 receive the impact of the forwardly moving cross bar 30, which may be termed an ejector,and thissudden stoppage of the movement-of this ejector or cross bar 30 will cause the projectile to fiy out of its seat in the line of its movement. Neither do I wish to be limited to the particular impact receiving means or doubles which I have illustrated as these might be modified without departing from my invention.
Having described my invention, what l claim is:
1. A gun of the character described comprising a breech member having a recess on one face, the recess opening upon the forward end of the breech member and upon the lower edge thereof, a trigger pivoted in-said recess and having a forwardly eX tending detent, a cover plate extending over the recess in the breech member, a stock member comprising a rod bent into the general 'similitude of a gun stock, the ends of the rod being operatively engaged with the breech member, vertically spaced guides extending forward from the breech member, across bar sliding upon said guides and constituting an ejector and having an inwardly extending detent engageable with the detent on the trigger and also formed with aprojectil e seat, and resilient means messes urging the ejector away from the breech member when the trigger is released.
2. A gun of the character described comprising a breech member recessed on one face, the recess opening upon the forward end of the breech member and upon the lower end thereof, a trigger pivoted in said recess and having a forwardly extending detent, a stool; member attached to the rearward end of the'breech member, forwardly extending guides comprising rods engaged in the breech member, the rods being disposed in. vertical alinement, a cross bar slidably mounted upon the guides and constituting an ejector and having an inwardly extending detent engage-able with the detent on the trigger, and resilient means forurging the ejector away from the breech member. A. gun of the character described comprising a breech member formed with a recess opening upon the lower edge of the breech member and upon the forward edge thereof, a trigger pivoted in the recessand having a forwardly extending detent, a stool: member attached to the breech member, forwardly extending tubular rods mounted upon the breech member and disposed in vertical alinement, and a barrel member formed of a rod bent into the outline of a gun stock and having its rear ends disposed within the tubular members, a cross bar mounted upon the tubular mem bers for sliding movement and having a de'-- a rod bent into the outline of a gun stock and having its ends detachably engaged with the breech member, forwardly extending rods havmg their rear ends detachably breech member having a trigger engaged with the breech member anddisposed in vertical relation, a rigid cross bar detachably engaged with the forward ends of said rods, a cross bar slidably engaged with the rods rearward of'the first named cross bar and constituting an ejector, said ClOss bar being formed with a projectile seat, the cross bar having a detent engageable with the trigger detent, and an elastic element operatively connected betweenthe first named cross bar and the the latter forward.
