Be it known that I, RICHARD Marma a subject ,of the German Emperor, and res]- dentof 13 Liibeckerstrasse, Cologne-on-the' Rhine. ermany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in and Relatin to Steam or Hot-Air A paratus to be Use in Combination with a ath, of which the following is aspecification.
i. This invention relates to new and useful improvements in steam or hot. air bath appa- 7 .ratus designed for medical use and more particnlarly to an attachment for use in conunctmnwxth any ordinary bath tub.
' The object of this invention is'to provide a device of this character in the form of a polpd adapted. to fit around the edges of the u it further object is to so construct this hood, that a seat carried thereby and upon which 'the bather sits, )ermits the maintenance of a erfect joint ctween the edges of the tub and hood and thereby prevents the displacement of said hood.
A'still further ob'ect is to provide a device which willbe e cient and economical to manufacture, at the same time affording an arrangement in which the cooling action of the inner surface of the apparatus is reduced to a minimum, thereby preventing any delebather;
1 of the terious influence upon the hen view of my apparatus as up lied to a tub.
Fig. l is a longitudinal contra sectional view of the whole, showin the same in use. Fig.
' with thegcover removed and showingthe opening for the head and neck of the- 3 is a top plan view 0 the attachment or hood bather. Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view in part, showing the bridge piece for sup orting the cover of the hood.. Fig. 5 is a iorication, is shown the zoutal sectional view of the hood with the rover or inclosureremovedi and Fig. 6 is a plan view of the cover, emp the hood.
In the drawings, made part of this a plireferred form 0 my o'ye'd as a part of invention, in which a. is the hood which rests on the edge e of the bathtub b, which bath tub may he of theordinary or any preferred form and construction. The hood a is circular at one end to correspond to the shape of the tub, the u per portion being extended horizontall an provided with an opening through w IlCll the head of the bather projects.
Carried .by the hood a is a seat at as b means of chains or the like e and it wil readily be seen that the weight of the bather upon the seat will effect a very tight and perfect joint between the horse-shoe shaped frame (I of the hood and the edge e of the tub.
To adapt the ap aratus for steam baths, I provide the hoo with the perforated or douche pi es 7 and q along the top and sides respectively, suitably attached t ereto and having a fittin h for efi'ectin their connection with ya suitable source 0 sup ly. The forward end of the hood is incline and has secured thereto, a. cover or inclosure i of some flexible material such as canvas, the front portion of which extends over the bridge or crossbar l and hangs inside the bath-tub, in order to facilitate t e discharge therefrom of condensing water. This cover is fastened to the frame and hood through the medium of eyes is in the edge thereof which engage the buttons h and said cover has a glove 1' secured thereto, adapted for the use of the bather as desired. The cross bar l is held against lateral movement and is secured to the frame 9 by means of common hook and e e fastening t. The tub is further rovi ed with a foot rest m which is positioned over the inlet pi es n o, the part a 'bein preferably flexib e and passing under t 0 cover 2', and an outlet allows the drain of the condensed water. on not in use the hood may be hung up as is apparent,

by the eye 8 secured to the frame g at its circular end.
It will now be seen that I have provided a very desirable form of bathin appliance and one in which no deleterious e eet is produced by the cooling of the inner surface of the bath as has been apparent in other devices of this character.
While I have shown the preferred formof my invention, I desire to have it understood,
that I may make such changes therein as fairly fall within the scope thereof as is set forth in the appended claims.
What I claim is: 1. In a bath ap aratus, a tub, a hood thereon formin a c osed chamber with said tub, said hood eing shorter than said tub,
and a cover removably secured to said hood In testimony whereof I have hereuntozm depending loosely into the tub. signed my name this 23d day of November,
2. An attachment for a tub, comprising a 1908, in the presence of two subscribing i hood having a circular end piortion and S1d8 Witnesses. v portions of metal the top 0 said hood being provided witli frame having an openl RICHARD- MAYER ing therein, a base for said hood, of horse- I lVltnesseszl Z.
