ASH'SPRINKLER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Ilatented/J an. a, 1910.
Application filed May 21, 1308. Serial No. 434,138.
To ail whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Biennium) Biiocir, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Rochester in the county of Monroe and State of idea; York, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Ash- Sprinklers, of which the followingis a speci- This invention relates to ash sprinklers,.
and consists in the constructioh and combination of parts herein described and claimed.
vation, applie the pipe Q n'ray be fixed at any desired posidjzion. The standard at may comprise a piece of pipe that is screwed into an ordinary floor-socket .6. The hitter may be screwed, as shown, upon a board 7 adapted to rest on the floor.
Connected tothe lower end of the pipe. 2 is a pipe 8, of a suitable length to extend to the center of an ashpit 5) when the standard at is placed just imtside a furnace 10.
pipe 2 is a down-turned elbow 11 that carries a perforated head 12. Said head in the drawing is shown ashemispherical in shape.
To operate the device, the desired quantity ofwater is poured into the timk 1, and it immediately flows down through the pipes 2 and 8 into the perforated head 12. As the pcrforatioinis inthe latter are eon'iparatively restricted, the pressure of the water due to the height of the pipe 2 sends a series of fine streams, as indicated, to every part of the ashpit floor, and thoroughly wetting down the ashes 13 1 ing therein. 'lhe'ashes are thus rendered ustle'ss.
.T he 'pipe 8 may be extended through the ashpitdoor opening, or, as shown herewith,
a notch or slit 14' may be cutin the furnace to receive it,'and the door 15 may be closed while the device is in operation.
What I claim is: In an ash sprinkler, a water reservoir, a
' pipe extending downwardly therefrom and then substantially horizontal and having a perforated distributing head adapted to ass through an ash pit door, a movable stem ard ha ving, a sleeve surrounding the vertical portion of said pipe, means for fixingthe vertical pipe at any desired position in said sleeve for dilierent doors, and a movable 4 base supporting the said sprinkler, whereby the perforated head may be inserted into the ashpit of a furnace or the device as a whole may be moved away from the furnace.
