Letters Patent No. 94,483, datedl September 7, 1869.
IMPRovEn nUMPING-TUB.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the lama.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J AOOB S. EVANS, .of Berkley,
Bristol county, State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Dumping- Pans or Tubs; and I do hereby declare the following description and accompanying drawings are suicient to enable any person skilled in the alt or science to which it most nearly appertains, 'to make and use my said invention or improvements, without further invent-ion or experiment.
V The nature of my invention and improvements con`A sists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of devices described and claimed in the following specication, and shown in the drawings.
lled, it should be loaded heaviest at the front end, so
that it will tilt as soon as it is unlocked. 4 The bail B is made in the form shown, with an eye for the hook H, by which it is hoisted.
To hold the-pan A. in position while it is being filled and hoisted, I extend one armof the strap G up, as shown at F, and perforate it for the end of the boltrS, which is bevelled and pressed forward by the spiral spring, shown 'by dotted lines in the barrel I), so that when the arm F swings up, it pushes in the bolt, which springs out into the hole in the arm, and locks it securely. The pin I in the arm F stops it when the hole in the arm comes opposite the bolt S.
The barrel D is fastened to the bail B to contain the bolt S and its spring.
The bent rod Gis fastened tothe hook H, as shown in the drawings, but it may be fastened to the' bail B, if preferred that way, and its lower end stepped in the tubular standK, fastened to the arm of the bail B, as shown in the drawings.
The link 'I of the guy-rope or chain E surrounds this rod C, and when the pan is loaded, the link 'l is placed in the bend at C, and is held there by the guy until the pan is hoisted and swung to the place where it is to be emptied, when the guy is slacked and shaken to make the link 'I drop down on to the tail R of the bolt S, when the guyis pulled or jerked to pull back the bolt, and let the pan tilt and empty its load. l
The ring J is fastened lto the rod G, to hold the guy so near horizontal that it will draw the bolt when pulled for that purpose. Y
Having described my improvements,
I claiml. The combination and arrangement of the bolt S with its tail R,'rod O, and link T, constructed and arranged to operate substantially as described, for the purpose Set forth.
2. The unlocking or releasing the dumping-pan o; tub, by means ot' the rope or guy used to steady the pan or tub out or in, substantially as described.
