WINDOW-GUARD.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that we, JACOB TREU and KARL SoHAnrnn, citizens of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Endow-Guards, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
()ur invention relates to improvements in guards for windows and the like; and an object of our invention is to provide a guard which will be simple in construction, C0111- paratively cheap in manufacture and efficient and durable in use.
Another object of our invention is to provide a window-guard which will be adapted for use with windows of various widths and which will be adjustable to and from the window to vary the space available for use outside of the window; as, for example, the space upon the window-ledge for the holding of sundry articles and also to afford free and safe movement upon the window-ledge outside of the window; as, for example, in washing the windows from the outside.
In the drawings illustrating the principle of our invention and the best mode now known to us of applying that principle, Figure 1 is a front elevation of our new window-guard in place upon a window; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same; and Fig. 3 is a plan.

by which construction the windowguard may be extended or folded to adapt it for use with windows of different widths. The front portion a is connected at each end to L-shaped brackets d, e, The sides 9 of 'our new window-guard are, like the front portion a thereof, made up of a series of jointed bars h, 2', and the outer ends of these members 9 are fastened to the L-shaped brackets cl, 6, f, while the inner ends of the sides are fastened to the sides of the window-frame.
From an inspection of the drawings and the foregoing description, it will be clear that the side members 9 may be folded or extended and thereby vary the space available outside of the window; as, for example, upon the ledge 70 thereof.
We claim:
A window-guard consisting of a front jointed portion which may be folded and extended to adapt the window-guard to windows of different widths; and jointed side portions which may be folded and extended to vary the distance of the front portion from the window.
