Description

FRANK OHRMUNDT AND JOI-IN KRAMER, 0F EMBARRASS, WISCONSIN.
COVER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dee. 28, 1909.
Application led .Tune 3, 1909. Serial No. 499,956.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, FRANK OHRMUNDT and JOHN KRAMER, citizens of the United States, residing at Embarrass, in the county of Waupaca and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Covers, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in covers in cans and like metal receptacles, and has for its object to provide a contractible and expansible locking device whereby the cover may be held securely in position and which will prevent the same from being j ostled off and lost.
IVith this object in view the invention consists of the details of construction and arrangement which will more fully appear hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings which form a part of this application. Figure 1 is a perspective view 0f the cover showing the top portion of the invention in position. Fig. 2- is a vertical sectional view through cover showing a view of the device locked. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the device 11n-locked.
Like numerals and letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, A is a cover, which is provided with an annular downwardly-extending collar B, adapted to enter the neck of the can or other receptacle to which the said cover belongs. The cover A is provided near its circumferential edge with an angle-bracket C provided with guide-ways a and having the perforation 2 therethrough, said perforation also extending down through the cover A, through which passes the rod 4l, the upper end of which terminates in the head 5, said head working in the guide-ways a and is provided with a cam -shaped opening 7. The lower end of the rod 4 terminates in a pair of arms 8 which converge and pass through the ringed-projections d which are tion as to allow the short end 11 to bear against the upper and lower sides of the cam-shaped head 5 thereby raising and lowering the rod 4L and as will be readily seen l causing the converging arms 8 to move up and down in the ringed projections ci.
From the foregoingit will be seen that by operating the angle-lever l0 the convergingarms 8 will be moved up and down thereby (liontacting and expanding the annular col- Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States isl. The combination, in a cover, with an angle-bracket provided with guide-ways, a cam-shaped head working in said guideways and the lower end of which passes through the cover and terminates in converging arms, ringed projections having converging arms passing therethrough, said ringed projections being located on the collar B, and means for operating the camshaped head said means consisting of an angle-lever pivoted to said angle-bracket, substantially as set forth and described.
2. In a cover, the combination with an angle-bracket provided with guide-ways, a cam-shaped head sliding in said guide-ways, an angle-lever pivoted to said angle-bracket and operating the cam-shaped head, ringed projections located on a collar B, a rod 4, terminating in a pair of arms, said arms being converging and passing down through the ringed projections, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK OHRMUNDT. .JOHN KRAMER.
