To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MILTON J. SHIMER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Bethlehem, in the county of Northampton and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Pistol, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The invention is an improvement in toy pistols, and belongs to that class of such devices as are constructed to carry the caps in the length of a tape which is made into a roll and led to the firing anvil.

The invention has for its purpose to provide a cap roll support at a point on the pistol such that the roll will be immediately accessible to and at all times within View of the operator, and, further, to so blanket the firing anvil when it is struck by the hammer that the possibility of flying fragments of the cap is eliminated.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views. 1

Figure 1 is a side view of a toy pistol constructed in accordance with my invention, showing the hammer retracted and the cap roll in place, in vertical section; Fig. 2 is a plan of the pistol with the hammer pressed to the anvil; Fig. 3 is a fragmentary side "iew of the pistol on an enlarged scale, showin g the hammer and anvil in vertical section; Fig. 4 is a horizontal section through the hammer and anvil; and Fig. 5 is a rear end view of the hammer and adjacent parts.

I preferably construct the pistol to simu' late a revolver, the frame of which is constructed of two longitudinal half sections 10, 10, suitably joined together and forming, when united, the several conventional features of the arm, such as the barrel 11, magazine 12, trigger guard 13 and stock 1 1. In addition to these features the frame is provided with an anvil 15 projecting upwardly at the rear of the magazine 12, a guard 16 at one side and at the rear of the anvil, and a cap-roll carrying-pin 17 extending upwardly at the front of the anvil, the pin having a knob or other enlargement 17 at the head to prevent the cap tape from dropping ofl". also form features of the pistol, the hammer having forwardly-projecting guards 20 and 21 at the edges of its striking face, the guard 20 being arranged at the top and the guard 21 at that side of the hammer opposite to the guard 16. Both guards 20 and 21 overlap the firing anvil when the hammer is lcwered, and form in connection with the guard 16, a boX, which prevents the flying of fragments of the cap when the latter is fired. The guard 16 is spaced sufliciently from the anvil to provide a guide slot 22 for the passage of the cap tape, the bottom edge, of the slot and a shoulder 23 at the opposite side of the anvil, as best shown in Figs. 1 and 5, being arranged at an elevation to support the lower edge of the tape when the latter is positioned at the proper height over the face of the anvil.

In the use of the pistol the cap tape in the form of a roll is placed on the carryingpin 17, and the free end of the tape passed through the guide slot 22, thence over that edge of the anvil opposite the guard 16. The operator with the fingers draws the tape over the anvil until the cap is in position to be fired by the hammer, and repeats this manner of feeding the caps after each firing of the pistol. The caps as supported are at all times in an accessible position and within the view of the operator, whereby the tape may be readily renewed and its condition easily determined.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. The combination in a toy pistol, of .a barrel, a firing anvil extending upwardly at the rear of the barrel, and a cap-roll carrying-pin projecting upwardly from the barrel at the front of the anvil.

2. The combination in a toy pistol, of a firing anvil having a guard arranged at one side thereof, and a hammer having guards projecting from the hammer and arranged to overlap the top and other side of the anvil.

3. The combination in a toy pistol, of an anvil, a cap tape support arranged to admit of the feeding of the tape crosswise of the anvil from one side thereof, a guard arranged at this side of the anvil and spaced therefrom to provide a guide slot for the tape, and a hammer having guards projecting from the firing space thereof and respectively arranged to overlap the top of the anvil and the opposite side thereof. 4.
