In a stanchion, the combination of a stanchionvfraine consisting of a vertical andupper and lower angled portions, means for suspending said stanchion frame, spaced bars secured to the lower portion of the frame, the top .or upper ends of said bars provided with beveled inner edges, a stanchion' bar pivoted at its bottom or lower end to the frame, said bar adapted to strike the beveled edges of the spaced bars, a pivoted latch secured to the upper angled portion of .the frame and the pivoted stanchion bar adapted to engage thelatchsecured to the stanchion frame and al spring connected to the stanchion frame and adapted for engagement with the latch, substantially as and for the purpose specified.'
