CREDIT-CABINET.
Spee ilioation of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 7, 1909.
Application filed December 16, 1907. Serial No. 406,719.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROLLO M. VIoK, a citizen of the United States, residin at Alliance, in the county of Stark and tate of Ohiofhave invented certain new and-useful Improvements in Credit-Cabinets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, maklng a part of this specification,
and to the numerals of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of the cabinet, showing a part of one of the sides broken away and two of the credit slip holding leaves brought into a lowered position. Fig. 2 is a vertical section showing a ortion of the credit slip holding leaves in t ieir 'normal position and a portion of the leaves brought into a lowered position. Fig. 3 is a View showing the back of the cabinet, and illustrating a part of the back broken away to illustrate the advertisingdisk. Fig. 4 is a detached view of the advertising disk, showing the mechanismadapted to actuate the disk by a movement of one or more of the credit sli p holding leaves. Fig. 5 is a view showing a portion of one of the credit slip holding leaves, and illustrating the spring contact roller connected thereto. Fig. (5 is a similar view showing a slight modification. Fi 7 is a view showing the removable credit-slip holding plate, the s rings, and illustrating a part of the cre it-slip holding leaves in their normal position and balance intheir lowered position. Fig. 8 is a detached view of the removable creditslip leaf holding plate showing the creditslip holding leaf actuating springs connected thereto. I
The present invention, has relation to credit cabinets, and it-consists in the novel construction hereinafter described and par ticularly pointed out in the claims.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawing. p
In the accompanying drawing 1 represents the sides of the cabinet, which are spaced from each other and held ,in proper spaced relation by means of the back2 and the bottom 3, which parts constitute the cabinet case proper. It will however be understood that I do not desire to confine myself to the exact arrangement of the cabinet as the objects and purposes hereinafter described can be carried out without reference to detailed construction. 7
To the side members 1, or their equivalents is attached the inclined bottom 4, to
the lower forward edge of which is attached the strip or flange 5, to which strip or flange and to the side members is attachew the desk member or plate 6. Upon the inclined bottom 4 is located the removable credit-slip carrye ing or holding plate 7, which plate is provided with the end flanges 8, which end flanges are for the urpose of pivotally attaching the credit-s ip holding leaves 9 by means of the pins 10, which pins are located through the apertures 11 formed in the flanges 8. To the credit-slipsholding-leaves 9 are attached the pintles 12, which are formed in pairs andcarry the rollers 18, which rollers are for the purpose of engageconnected to the credit-slip carrying or old;- ing plate 7 said springs being so located with reference to the rol ers 13, that the lat ment with the springs-14, which sprin s are ter will come in contact with theespriaig's:
when 7 the credit slip holding leaves '5 are brou ht-into lowered positions. The springs 14 Wlllthen be forced out of theirnormal positions, so that they will have a tendency to check the downward movement just before the credit-slip-holding-leaves, are brought into their, lowermost positions. The springs will also have: a tendency to assist in e evating the credit-slip-holding-leaveswhen they are iven their initiative upward movement and will assist in holding the credit slip-holding-leaves in an elevatedposition, ow ng to the fact that the rollers 13 are located below the pivotal points of said leaves.
In Fig. 6 I have shown a sli ht modification from what is shown in ig. 5, which modification consists in'placin the rollers 13 upon bars 15 connected to t e bottom or lower ends of the credit-slip-holding-leaves,;
but the action is the same and the purpose is the same in both instances.
For the purpose of providing means for holding credit-slips, the credit-slip-holdingleaves are provided with the clips 16, which clips may be of the form shown or they may with the disk 17 or made separate and attached in any convenient and well known manner. Upon the bacl'oiface of the disk 17 are arranged in radial lines, words, and the words'so spacedand located that as the disk is rotated as hereinafter described, the words or reading matter located upon the disk will be brought into positionjfrom time to time to appear just'back of the open spaces 21v formedin the back of the case. It will be understood that as the disk revolves a given sentence extending practically across the en'- tire face of the disk must be so arranged that the letters or characters will appear right side up, when they are brought into view andin order to do this it will be understood that the characters or words must be inverted upon opposite sides of the pivotal pointof the disk. In order to prevent any word or character from appearing upside down, ,the words or characters upon the disk are alter- I nately reversed as illustrated in the draw:
ings. It will be understood that in order that no inverted word or character appears back of the apertures or openings 21, the disk must be so rotated that the inverted words or characters will pass the openings 21, and the disk stopped, at points that will bring the words orcharacters into their true positions or in other words by the movements of the credit-slip-holding leaves or the movement of a single credit-slip-holding-leaf as the case ma be, the disk must be rotated a distance su cient to move the inverted charactors or figures out of sight. For-the purpose of operating the disk from time to time, by the movement of the credit-slip-lioldingleaves or one of the leaves the arm 22 is provided, which arm is pivotally attached to the stud, and is provided with the pawl 23 one end of which is adapted to engage the teeth 20. The pawl 23 is pivotally attached to the arm 22 and extended beyond its pivotal point in opposite directions asillustrated in Fig. 4, by which arrangement the pull-string 24 can be attached to said awl at one end and the opposite end of sai spring attached to the short arm 25 or its equivalent, said spring being for the purpose of automatically moving the pawl at its, toothed engaging end away from the center of the disk. To the outer free end of the arm 22 is attached the link 26, which link extends downwardand its bottom or lower end is pivotally attached to the rock bar 27, which rock-bar is extended forward, and its forward end provided with the upward bent, portion or part 28, which upward bent part is extended so that it can come throughthe desk portion 6 as illustrated in Fig.- l.' The rock-bar 27 is pivotally attached intermediate its ends to one of the Tide membersof the case proper or its equivaent.
For the purpose of preventing the marring of the credit-slip-holding-leavs, and
for the purpose of reducing the frictional contact between the upper end of theupward curved portion 28, and the credit-slipholding-leaves, the anti-friction roller 29 is provided.
For the purpose of normally holding the rock-bar 27 in an elevated'position and to automatically bring the rock-bar into an elevated position at its forward end the spring 30 is provided, which spring is connected to the rock-bar 27 and to the desk portion 6 or its equivalent.
The operation of the just above described device is as follows: Let it be assumed that the rock-bar 27 is in the position illustrated in dotted lines Fig. 2, which is-its normal position when all of the credit-slip-holdingleaves are in elevated position. The front or forward leaf or any of the leaves designed to be brought into contact with the top of the upward curved portion 28 and upon the roller 29 will lower the forward end of the rock-bar 27 and bring it in the position illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, which in turn elevates the rear end of the rock-bar 27 and moves the free end .of the arm 22 upward by means of the link 26 thereby imarting an intermittent rotating movement to the disk 17 by means of the pawl 23 and the ratchet wheel 28.
In Fig. 6, the pintles. 1O are located above the extreme bottom of the credit slip holding leaf 9, while in Fig. 5, the pintle 10 is illustratcd at the extreme bottom.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isc 1. In a credit-cabinet, a case or frame, a
removable plate, a series of creditrslip-holding leaves pivotally attached to said removable plate, means for connecting credit-slips to the leaves, springs connected to the removable plate, and rollers carried by the credit-slip-holding-leaves and located below the pivotal points of the credit-slip-holdingleaves, said rollers adapted for bearing contact upon the springs fixed to the removable pivotal points of the credit-slip holdingplate, substantially as and for the purpose leaves, substantially as end for the purpose specified. specified.
