- My invention is of great utility in retaining the collar, cuff, or other garment, in the proper position in which it is adjusted, instead of leaving it free to shift and yield, as'it does on the contracted neck of buttons in common use. Hence, my improvement not only promotes neatness and comfort in the dress, but greatly reduces-the wear upon the button-hole.

To all 'whom 'it may concern:
Beit known that I, J ORN B. CARTER, of Hartsville, in the county of Bartholomew, and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Buttons; and that the following is'afull and correct description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are made a part of this specification. e
My improved button is designed especially for fastening cuis, collars, and cravats.
