CHRISTIAN J. SILVIONSON, OF CARON, SASKATCHEWAN, CANADA.
RACK FOR ROLLS OF MERCHANDISE.
To all 'whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, CIInIsTL-iiI J. SIMON- soiv, a citizen of the Dominion of Canada, residing at Caron, in the Province of Saskatchewan and Dominion of Canada, have invented new and useful Improvements in Racks for Rolls of Merchandise, of which the following is a specification.
rhis invention relates to racks for holding rolls cf merchandise, the object of the invention being to provide a device of the character described for advantageously displaying and assisting in the convenient measuring off of oilcloth, linoleum and the like, thereby eecting a material saving both in time and labor on the part of the salesllllll.
lith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construc- Lion, combination and arrangement of parts herein fully described, illustrated and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing t-Figure 1 is a front elevation of the rack. F ig. 2 is an end elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical cross section on the line 3 3 of F ig. 1.
he rack comprises essentially a base 1 which is mounted upon suitable casters 2 adapting the rack to be moved readily from place to place.- Secured to opposite ends of the base are end frames 3 having bottom flanges 1 by means of which said frames are bolted or otherwise secured to the base as shown in the drawings. Each frame is provided near the bottom with an arched cross bar 5 provided centrally with a bearing slot (S, the slots of the two cross bars 5 being adapted to receive a roller 7 for containing a roll 8 of linoleum or like material.
At a higher elevation, the end frames are provided with circular or annular cross bars 9 while just below the cross bars 9 there are other arched cross bars 10 which merge into and connect with the annular cross bars 9. The upper portions of the annular cross bars are provided with bearing slots 11 to receive the roller 12 of another roll 13 of the linoleum or the like. rlhe opposite sides of the end frames are also provided with inclined bearing slots 14 adapted to receive rollers 15 for containing other rolls 16 of 17 designates tie bolts which connect the two end frames at points Specification of Letters Patent.

adjacent the top thereof and serve to brace the rack as a whole and enable the same to support heavy rolls of material. One of the rolls 15 constitutes a measuring-off roll and is provided with clamp fingers 18 which extend inward over the roll of linoleum or other material or rather over the inner ply or edge portion thereof so as to clamp the edge of the material against the roller. These fingers are provided with collars 19 removably fitted on the measuring-on' roller and while one of said collars, if desired, be permanently fastened on said roller, the other collar is provided with a set screw 20 which admits of the collar with which it is associated being lengthwise of the roller and entirely removed therefrom when necessary. The ingers 18 are designed to clamp the edge of the linoleum or oilcloth against the roller preparatory to winding the material thereon.
By reason of the arrangement above described, the extreme edge of any particular roll of material may be clamped to the measuring or reeling-off roller and the latter is provided with an operating crank handle 21 by means of which said roller may be revolved with ease. The rack will be found of great convenience to salesmen in displaying and reeling off the necessary lengths from any selected roll of material.
I claim A rack for the purpose set forth comprising a base mounted on casters, end frames extending upward therefrom and secured thereto, tie bolts connecting the upper portion of the end frames, each end frame embodying parallel standards, arched and annular cross bars connecting said standards, the standards and cross bars being provided with bearing slots to receive rows of merchandise, a reeling-off roller removably journaled in oppositely arranged bearing slots, collars mounted on said shaft and provided with inwardlyl extending clamp fingers, one of said collars being movable, and an operating crank on said roller.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHRISTIAN J. SIMONSON. lVitnesses:
RICHARD PAUL, J. M. SULLIVAN.
