To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, OTTO HENRY VAN GUELPEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Candelabra, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. L

The purpose of the invention is to .provide a candelabrum so constructed that its arms can be turned around a central support, and wherein the arms are so jointed and connected that their members can be placed in any desired position in relation to each other, and conveniently and securely fastened in adjusted position, the adjustment being accomplished with equal ease at the back or at the front of the device.

The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts as will be hereinafter fully set forth and pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a front elevation of the improved device; Fig. 2 is a detail sectional side elevation of one of the connecting mediums between the link members of an arm of the device; and Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken practically on the line 353 of Fig. 2.

A represents a support of any desired character, having a suitable base 10, and which support telescopically receives a rod member 11, which' is held in adjusted position by means of a set screw 12 or its equivalent, and at the upper end of the adjustable member 11 of the said support A, a candle holder 13 is secured, and at a suitable distance below the said candle holder 13, a collar 14 is integrally formed upon the said adjustable member 11 of the support A. In connection with the said support A, an arm B is provided, and this arm is adapted to turn around the adjustable member 11 of the support A between the candle holder 13 and the collar 14, as is illustrated in Fig. l. This arm extends usually an equal distance each side of its support, and the said arm consists of pairs of leaves C and pairs of links D that pivotally connect the leaves. yand with a recess 19 adjacent ing 15, that extends down from the top to the bottoni and through its outer edge, and the leaves of a pair are designated respectivelyias 15 and 1G. As is-best shown in is provided with an apertured knuckle 17 that is provided with a recess 18 at its bottom portion to its upper portion, while the opposing leaf 16 is provided with an upper apertured lug 2O adapted to enter the upper recess 19 in the leaf 15, and a lower apertured lug 21 that is adapted to enter the lower recess 18 in the said leaf 15. An upper washer 22 is provided where the lug 20 enters the knuckle 17, and a washer 23 is also employed where the lower lug 21 enters the lower recess 18.

A pintle 24 is passed down through the knuckle 17 and the apertured lugs 20 and 21 of each pair of leaves, pivotally connecting them, the said pintle likewise passing through the washers 22 and 23. Each pintle 24 extends both above and below the leaves that it pivotally connects, and at the upper end of each of said pintles 24, a candle holder 25 is secured, while a nut 26 is screwed upon the lower end of each pintle 24, in order to tighten the connections between the pairs of leaves after the leaves have been adjusted as desired. Each leaf of a pair is provided at its lower portion with a segmentalI slot or opening 27, as is shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and the links D of a pair that connect opposing leaves C, are designated, the upper links as 2S and the lower links as 29. These links are made to enter the openings 15a in the said leaves C, and the upper links 2S are pivotally connected to the leaves by means of suitable pivot pins orbolts 30, and the lower links 29 are pivotally connected to the leaves by corresponding bolts or pins 31, but the lower links 29 cross the segmental openings 27 and traverse the same in the adjustment of the link's to bring the arms B in desired positions. A bolt 32 is passed through one end of each link 29, and through the opening 27 that it crosses, and each bolt 32 is provided with a thumb nut 33 or its equivalent at each end, so that the links 29 after being adjusted can be tightened and held in adjusted position, the operation being readily accomplished from either side of the device.

It will be understood that while I have illustrated the tightening device as located at only one end of a link 29 of-a pair, such device may be duplicated at the opposite end of the link if so desired.

The end leaves C" are single, as is illustrated in Fig. 2, and are simply adjustable relatively to the links D that connect them with the neXt pair of leaves.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent r- 1. A candelabruin comprising a leaf having a pair of lugs with alining openings, a second leaf having a knuckle disposed between said lugs and having an opening alining therewith, a pintle passing through said l alining openings, a candle-holder attached at the upper ends of said leaves, said leaves having links pivotally attached thereto, means for clamping said links, and other Y links parallel with said first links and pivotally attached to said wings.

A candelabruni comprising aV leaf having a pair of lugs with openings therein, a second leaf having a knuckle passing between said lugs having` an opening alining with said first openings and having a recess receiving one of said lugs, a -pintle passing downwardly through said lugs and said knuckle, a candle-holder carried by said pintle, said leaves having links pivotally at'V tached thereto, means for clamping said links to said leaves, and other links pivotally attached to said leaves and parallel with said first links.
