UNITED STATES STEPHAN SZIGETI-IY,
PATENT OFFICE.
OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CAN DLESTICK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent NO. 473,797, dated April. 26, 1892.
Application filed January 28, 1892. Serial No. 419,581. (No model.)
To @ZZ wiz/m it may concern.-
Be it known that I, STEPHAN SZIGETHY, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Candlesticks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to Candlesticks; and it consists of certain novel devices and features and combinations hereinafter described in this speciiication, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure I is an elevation, partly in section, of a Candlestick constructed in accordance with my invention, the branches being shown in several different positions by the aid of the dotted lines. Fig. 2 is aside View, partly in section, of my improved candlestick, including a centralvertical section of the head, by means of which the inner ends of the branches are clamped together. Fig. 3 shows the head and parts of the branches detached in plan view. Fig. 4- shows the upper part of the standard arranged for holding a single light.
b'lhe letter A designates the standard of my candlestick, on which the branches and candle-sockets are supported. The upper end of the standard is provided with a threaded socket B, which receives a screw C, that extends down from the bottom of the candlesocket D, and by screwing into socket B serves to secure it to the standard, as is shown in Fig. 4. The threaded socket B serves, also, to fasten the head E to the standard, for which purpose the lower part ot the head is pro- .Vided with a screw F, which is of the same size as screw C, sothat on unscrewing the screw C from the socket B and screwing the screw F into said socket the head E becomes spring-glate H, will add to the symmetry of the device. The bolt K serves as a pivot for the swinging branches M M. The candle holders or sockets N are shown as having their stems O supported by the adjustable branches M. The arms M are shown provided on one side with holes P and on the other side with holes Q R S. The holes Q R S may be described as angularly located with respect to holes P, since by passing the stems O through the holes Q P the holders N will be supported at a right angle to the branches M, while it said stems are passed either through the holes R P or S P the holders N will be inclined to one side or the other. The holders N can thus be kept in a substantially upright position even though the branches M are adjusted up or down, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. l. By loosening screw I the branches M are free to swing about bolt or pivot K, and after said branches M are properly adjusted the screw I is tightened, whereby the spring-plate H presses the closingplate G against the branches M and clamps or holds the latter in the required position.
by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, with astandard or pedestal, of adjustable branches jointed thereto, said branches being provided with holes angularly located with respect to one another on opposite sides of the branches, and candle-holders having stems adapted to enter the holes, substantially as described. v
2. The combination, with a standard or pedestal having an opened-sided head, of a bolt provided with a nut or screw, and with closing and spring plates located on the open side of the head, and candle supporting branches swinging on said bolt and adapted to be clamped or fixed by the nut, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
STEPHAN SZIGETIIY.
