Description
' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES A. LESTER, OF INTERLAKEN, NEW YORK.
CLEANSING COMPOUND.
N 0 Drawing.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES A. LESTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Interlaken, in the county of Seneca and State of New York, have invented new and useful cleaning compounds to be used for the removal of mud and dirt from the varnished surfaces of railway-cars, automobiles, carriages, and other vehicles without injury to the varnish.
My composition consists of the following ingredients in the proportions stated, viz:
Mineral oil one gallon \Vood alcohol, or its equivalent one qoart The oil which I use for my composition is a mineral oil lubricating distillate, such as is sold by the Standard Oil Company under the name of WVinter Black lubricating oil. Crude mineral oil I find is too thick to work freely. These ingredients are to be thoroughly mixed by agitation. I do not, however, confine myself strictly to the proportions as above specified.
' In usin I this composition, the liquid is applied to tie surfaces to be cleaned, preferably with a flannel cloth, and after themud and dirt have been removed, the surfaces Specification of Letters Patent.
should be rubbed with a clean, dry cloth.
The oil cuts the mud and dirt so that. itis easily rubbed off it also lubricates all particles of grit in the dirt, thereby preventing the scratching or-marring of the surface as they are removed. The alcohol is prevented, by the large proportion of oil in the mixture, from cutting the paint or varnish, and acts in conjunction with the oil to renew the polished surface, and give it a bright appearance. The oil alone would leave the surface dull and dirty in appearance. The composition as so applied will not injure the finest varnished surface, but will give to it a bright renewed finish.
I claim The herein described cleansing compound consisting of mineral oil lubricating distillate and WOOCl alcohol, mixed together in the Patented Nov. 23, 1909. Application filed August 15, 1908. Serial N0. 448,704. I
proportions of four parts of oil to one part of alcohol, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature, in presence of tivo witnesses.
JAMES A. Les'rER.
